New NTA officers and board?

Isn't, "Thou shalt NOT provide ANY information in a timely mannor!" part of the bylaws?



I just received a call informing me, that is NOT in the bylaws..........It's a COMMANDMENT, but they wouldn't tell me who made it one. Anyone have any ideas?

 

the answer resides in the un written rule book.....which is hard to find.....

 

Ron, the unwritten rule book is embedded in ones mind there like etched stones of time! I'm sure if a situation arises that that book needs to be used the rules will be quoted without fail, and depending on what the situation is will depend on what version you get!

 

I can give a bit of info on the trade show end. I did about 15% of the business that I did at each of the several state shows & Surry, that I attended this year. I do not think it was the economy. I was very disappointed with the number of people that went through the supplier area. I did talk with some great folks though.

It was funny when Justin came to my booth with the TAXINET shirt on. I asked if he'd been hit with any darts yet, lol.

 

This is a bunch of BS. I Just spoke to Matt Marulli and mentioned this post because it seemed out of character for him. He is absolutely shocked about this. He checked Taxinet from the hotel and must not have logged off the computer. He is truly upset about what was posted under his name. He is currently on the road and will address this when he gets home to his computer.
I personally can vouch for Matt. He is a class act and would not throw a dagger towards George or anyone. He is our newly elected president of N.E.A.T. and treats all with respect and courtesy. I didnt attend the show nor do I get involved in the politics of the NTA or any association. I was going to post a reply this a.m. regarding this post but wanted to speak to him first. I want to know who the coward is that used his name to start some crap. Lousy POS. I really really would like to know who. At least if I wanted to stir up the hornets nest, I would have the stones to do it under my name.

I have to admit that it certainly sounded out of character for him and wondered if that might be the reason....or someone slipped him some GOOD drugs. The bit about the "blonde" afterwards made no sense either.

 

George is it possible for the Board to remove Joel Edwards at this point? and how many Board opening are there?

 

John, anything is possible I suppose. They would be within their rights to proclaim his resignation negated his running for reelection (it would've been a helluva lot easier to have such things written into real bylaws). Either way, the CURRENT bylaws state that if he RESIGNS, the VP moves up. Then the VP appoints his/her replacement and with a 2/3 majority that person fills the NEW VP slot. HOWEVER, this is radically different. Steve Wolk ran for VP. If Joel vacated the NEXT HIGHEST VOTE GETTER ON THE BALLOT WINS THE PRESIDENCY. Now I know John Janelli got 4 or 5 votes. I don't know if there were other write in ballots, but I do know that Steve Wolk is not eligible to assume the post since he never sought it. Steve IS, however, NTA president until Sept 31. If there were no write-ins (which I know is not true), the bylaws state that a special election would be required to fill the VACANT position. The VP can only "move up" when some issue prevents the elected president from continuing to serve (i.e., death, illness, resignation, incarceration, etc.) If Joel serves one day and then resigns, Steve could move up, but Joel would still have to serve one day as per Parliamentary procedure and the current bylaws as written.

Current ByLaws:
Section 4. Vacancies of Offices:
(a.) President Vacancy. In the event of a vacancy in the office of President, the Vice-President shall assume the
Presidency and complete the remainder of that President's term of office. If the Vice-President is unable or not available to assume the Presidency, the Secretary shall then assume the Presidency and complete the remainder of that President's term of office. If no elected officer is able or available to assume the Presidency, the Board of Directors shall elect a President from their ranks by a two-thirds (2/3) majority affirmative vote.
(b.) Other Vacancies. In the event of a vacancy in the office of Vice-President, Secretary, or a Board Member, the
N.T.A. President shall appoint the candidate who received the next highest number of votes for subject office in
the last election to fill subject vacancy and complete the remaining term of the subject office, which is vacant: as
long as the next individual in line can attain a majority approval vote from the Board of Directors. If a majority
approval vote of the Board of Directors is not attained for any of the individuals that were next in line from the
previous election, then the President may nominate any current eligible N.T.A. member in good standing to fill
subject vacancy for the remaining term. This nominee will be subject to a two-thirds (2/3) majority approval vote
of the Board of Directors.
(c.) Fill Vacancies From Membership. In the event there was no other candidate in the last election for offices in Section 4 (b.) hereof, which are vacant, or no "next in line" candidate could attain a majority approval vote of the
Board of Directors, the N.T.A. President may nominate any eligible N.T.A. current member in good standing to fill
subject vacancy and complete the remaining term of the subject office which is vacant. This appointment is subject to a two-thirds (2/3) majority vote approval of the Board of Directors.
(d.) No Concurrent Office. An N.T.A. current member in good standing, appointed by the N.T.A. President to fill any
office in Section 4(b.) hereof, which is vacant, shall not concurrently hold any other elected office, or appointed office in the N.T.A., or be the immediate Past-President of the N.T.A.

It sucks that someone would actually do this, that's the last time I use a hotel computer at any convention. The person who did this is a cowered, not to mention a lucky. They pissed off the wrong person.

 

Sad thing is it was a convention attendee or they wouldn't have the knowledge to post some of the things they did!

Who was elected to the other two board positions?

 

Anyone ever asked Joel to see if he even will accept the position? I know the ballots had already been mailed out and voting had begun when he resigned. For all we know he may not even accept. I am not going to jump to any conclusions until I hear it from the horse's mouth. :-\ But I do admit it is one big screwed up mess right now. :

 

Bill Haynes was elected to a board position, Mel Kinchloe, Jim Ellis, cannot remember the fourth one.

 

I was there each day,competed, attended seminars, bought supplies and caught up with old friends. Drove 75 miles home each night and returned the next am. Stayed out of the politics and hit the road Sat eve when the mounts were released.
It's sad when only a small portion of members take the time to mail in their votes.
