I beetled a deer that was shot in the head, degreased in dawn water ammonia for a week and a half. submerged in 35% for five days it is the ugliest black blue yellow piece of crap ive ever seen. Im thinking shot in the head didnt do it any favors! Im not sure this will come clean, any suggestions?

Sounds like you got a chemical reaction from either the ammonia or the peroxide with some bullet fragments. Was it uglied up before you put it in the peroxide or was that after the peroxide.

I missed the week and a half degrease time.....Duh! But you still may have gotten a reaction from ammonia and metal fragments. Or it may be just grease and blood as others have said. Time for some patient degreasing.

  3. If there was any metal left in it your 35% went flat about 2 minutes after you put it in there... and did nothing...

  4. Your problem sounds like blood and grease. I had a bear that was face shot but it came out perfectly white.....but I also degreased longer than a week and a half.

No it was ugly before i put it in the peroxide, and the peroxide is still good? my fingers are white and burning.

  6. What temp did you degrease at ???

I would go another 4 - 5 weeks @ 120 deg & only use clear dawn water, at this point, in case of bullet fragments.

That's blood and grease. No reason to look too deeply into it. It's a (EDIT: DEER) bear, you've got to degrease it more.

  8. MOST DEFINATLY Jeff, on longer degreasing.

Michael69 was asking about a deer though / HHI was using a bear he did as an example.

Either way, 1 1/2 Weeks degreasing didn't do a whole lot, Especially if water temp was 90deg on the deer!

Why the hell did I say bear? Haha. Weird. I had just read that post below about the bear tooth and like you said, Joe posted about the bear...maybe that's why?? I dunno, either way, it's not degreased...

well come to find out my peroxide did go flat so there is metal in the skull, and its super ugly!

  11. Gonna have to degrease more and whiten with some paste, since soaking it won't work... that way you can atleast whiten the outer parts of the skull if not the inner.
