Help with strange request?

Discussion in 'Lifesize Mammals' started by buckfever*, Nov 10, 2010.

  1. I got in a beaver to mount. This beaver is to be given away as a joke award. The strange request is they want it colored silver Thus it to be called the silver beaver award. ( i dont have a clue i did not ask why) Any suggestions here. spray paint would be at the very bottom of list. since it would plaster the hair down and come off anyways. As for as i know they dont make a silver hair dye. they might i recon, but i never heard of a lady dying her hair silver. its always the reverse of that. I was going to just turn it down but they made offer i couldn't refuse.
    Any ideas welcomed.

Actually there are some dyes for white / silver. You can find most of these odd colors in the alternative / goth / punk scene where dying your hair a different color every other week or just for shows is not uncommon.

From what I could tell, aging people sometimes dye their hair silver either to even out the color when their hair is already naturally grey, or to essentially just say "hell with it" when there are more grey hairs to cover up than regular color hairs in the first place.

You may need to bleach the beaver's fur first.

This will get it white: http://www.amazon.com/Manic-Panic-Amplified-Virgin-White/dp/B0015GVUMK

    These all say silver:

This person has full instructions and a list of products on the sidebar:

There are also gel products which are brushed on and wash right out such as this: http://www.zooscape.com/cgi-bin/maitred/RedSafari/questp305763/r04

    Good luck. :)

There is a "Silver Beaver Award" in scouting for meritorious service to the Boy Scouts of America...who knows what your request will be used for!

Silver Beaver Award is the 'biggest' award that can be given on a Council level, given for many years of service. This award can't be worked at, you don't 'earn' it- you are chosen.

Edit- Joey, you got there before me lol

I wouldn't use the play hair spray- it is made to come out easily. And a lady with grungy grey hair might want to dye it a nice silver! The companies cater to EVERYbody.

You can do it the same way I've seen artists do faux fur. Get your silver paint of choice, do some tests on scrap pieces of fur to make sure it won't rub out first. (Paints specifically made for plastics tend to stick to almost anything.) Then air brush or spray paint it on making sure you take a slicker brush behind it to fluff it back up while it's still wet. And air compressor or a blow dryer on cool while working with the slicker brush will speed this up. This will prevent it from having that plastered look.

On another note, silver hair dye might work, but as with all bleaching it will damage the fur.
