can you thaw a cape or an entire head in a hard pickle? if so would it still have to go to the salt room after fleshed? Thanks

I wouldn't suggest thawing anything in liquid. If your mount was properly cared for in the field, it should thaw ok. You need to salt it before anything else because it pulls all the liquid from the skin to help set the hair. You can never go wrong using salt, and plenty of it...salt is cheap, capes are not...hope that helped.

I have put frozen capes and mammals skins in the pickle, but the capes and skins were all fleshed, turned and split, I do not salt the skins unless I am going to store for awhile, I will even store carcasses of small mammals in the pickle for months for lack of freezer space if needed, your (acid pickle is not your normal liquid LOL.) I have never thawed whole heads or none prepped or fleshed skins in the pickle. The biggest issue from my experience is you would have a very dirty pickle, tell me why would you want to thaw heads in the pickle,to thaw faster or what?

  4. Hard pickle, this aint like hard cider.

Hang the head and thaw the darn thing, do some research in the beginners and look back a couple months there 30 or so posy about thawing.

  5. Despite the others yes i throw them in the safty acid some times,, cats and yots fox you name it . I got my advise from one of the best at McKinzie and i have never ever had a problem. now that being said i supose ill take a whippen from team taxi.net but what the heck.. try a throwing something you dont care that much about in and thaw it. JUST be smart and nutrlize it before you skin and salt the thing for at least 24 hours with clean salt . keep your PH at 1.5 or just lower all the time , i get way to meany cats and yots to do to have them sitting around sticking up my shop. ok guys have at it mark c

I don't care what you do mark c, you got a refrigerator? Put the cats in there. You must have a dirty pickle, or go through a lot of pickle acid.
