I participate in Career Day at my sons school every year. He is in 6th grade now and I want to do something new. I usually take in a few birds, a few fish, several whitetail and a lifesize mount, skulls, snake skins and a few soft tans. I only have 30 minutes for each classroom.
These are the points I'm supposed to cover:
•Describe your profession. (what you do)
    •Education / Training Needed
    •Salary Range and Benefits............................. ???
    •Interesting Information about your job.
    •Question & Answer Time

I was just gonna see if anyone had any interesting facts about taxidermy or its history.

YES BILL...A MIDDLE SCHOOLER....I'M GETTING OLD!!! Its a short demonstration and I usually have a lot of questions after so there isnt any dead time. I was going to bring a form and sculpt eyes for each class. I dont think ANYONE gets the time and work that goes into mounting a deer. People just think you screw the horns on and sew the skin up. I have had a man describe taxidermy to his son in front of me. He said "They just squirt some expanding foam, like tuff stuff, in the back of them and put them on a board"
I'm gonna have a laptop with some pictures on it too.

Yeah visuals of how you mount something would be great for them to see. If you have a series of pictures of mounting something from start to finish they would eat it up. I just did a live mounting of a deer shoulder mount for the elementary kids last friday during their environmental day. They would stop by throughout the moring and see how I was coming along on it and ask questions. The were floored by how I started with a foam thing and skin and ended up with a live looking deer. It was alot of fun.
