Where to buy denatured alcahol in Canada?

Discussion in 'Fish Taxidermy' started by elk74, May 25, 2011.

  1. I was wondering where fellow Canadians are buying their denatured alcahol.I have looked in Walmart and every hardwhare store and paint place in my area and cannot find it anywhere. The guy in our local hardwhare store said he thought it was no longer sold in Canada, due to it being an ingredient of crystal meth.I was wondering if this true and If other Canadians were having this problem.

Have you thought about using rubbing alcohol and water 50/50. Great for fish.

That's what I use. But I use rubbing alcohol straight, not diluted with the water. The nice thing is its only $1.75 per quart at walmart!!

Try your local LP gas dealer. They use it to clean the LP tanks.

  12. I don't know if Paul was being funny, denatured alcohol is grain alcohol with something added to make it bitter and undrinkable, and untaxable. In other words if the liquor store is closer than the hardware store ;)

Denatured alcohol is typically ethyl alcohol with methyl alcohol added to make it undrinkable(methyl alcohol is poisonous). However, for industrial purposes, methyl alcohol is commonly referred to by the term "denatured alcohol" AND is usually the cheapest form of alcohol that you can buy.
