What is a Trophy Blackbuck

    I'm about to go Blackbuck hunting and i am wondering what would be considered a trophy.

    Bronze, Silver or Gold and which scoring system? A really nice one will have 5 spirals/twists in the horns and 25 or more inches on each horn. I know there are 28s out there. Bases are 4 to 4 1/2 inches. Also the adult males will be glossy black. Younger ones or a few individuals with something amiss in genetics will be brown. Most of the ones my clients bring are in the 22-24 inch range with 3 or 4 spirals. Anita

    Not any scoring system, at the price i am paying i dont expect to get a gold medal or any thing, i just meant what would be worth mounting. minimum

    They make very nice mounts, even the smaller brown ones so I might not be the one to answer that. They are one of my favorites to mount. I'm sort of fond of them anyway. Blackbucks are one of the few that can lay their ears WAY down past the side of their neck in an aggressive or courting pose, which I hope to do on my next BB. There are lots of forms out there too, even smaller ones. Anita

    thay's EXACTLY what i was going to say,though i'd rather have a 17 with lot's of mass than a spindly 18.

    where i've always been
    i consider anything my customers bring me as a trophy.....so since you can't run up an measure the horns prior to the kill just pick out the one with the best color and length

    thanks for the idea i know its to interpretation but i dont want to take the runt on the first day and then see much bigger ones

    Man, after seeing these I'm pumped. I'm going on a blackbuck hunt Oct 7th. They do make beautiful mounts.

    A trophy black-buck is the one that's lying at your feet:) Don't worry about the size of horns and such, if you get one, feel blessed.
