Okay, I'm joking with you folks a little bit since "air" bird mounts are a fairly standard item. The two upland birds were mounted for another taxidermist who attached them to a couple of those ubiquitous jumping bobcats. I never saw the completed mounts but I was told that the clients were happy with them.

I've also done several flying birds supported by other flying birds but I can't find any photos of them. Did anybody happen to take any pictures of the ones that I did (with JonHarleTX) at the 2006 NTA show? (They were valley quail)

There's got to be more than just 3 or 4 guys doing air mounts. Here's a lion wolf piece I did around 1998. I casted the lion and wrapped the wolf.

I'm going to really show my ignorance here, sorry *blush* but...
what is the whole thing 'standing' on? What's keeping it on the ground, if you know what I mean? Sorry if that seems dumb, I really think these air mounts are fabulous, some of them really defy gravity though!

My wife heard me laugh and she came to investigate. I went back to the first page and guided her through this thread. When we got to the pheasant she laughed so hard she cried !

    Thistle,
If you're referring to the bobcat / rabbit mount, there is a 2 X 12 X 36" piece of lumber that is buried under the sand which supports the piece.

Speaking of small mammal air mounts, remember this little ringtail and tarantula from the 2000 NTA Show? It was always a favorite of mine. Ken Walker cleaned up on this piece, winning Judges' Choice Best of Show, People's Choice Best of Show, North American Champion, Roger Martin Award, Henry Wichers Inchumuk Award, Mayor's Award, and it even scored a Breakthrough cover for issue 61!
