    Hey guys,

Do you have any creative ways to cover up short a short brisket on a whitetail?

One of my customers cut the brisket quiteee short and need a way to hide it on the mount. Im thinking just a Mckenzie wall habitat but whats your opinions?

    thanks

Michael P's dvd addresses this very things using a rock mix. A great way to solve this problem. You can check it out at http://www.kastaway.com/store/store_product_detail.cfm?Product_ID=185&Category_ID=1&Sub_Category_ID=13

  3. McKenzie has some great wall habitat. I've had the same problem in the past.

When I get one in like that, that is an option I give to my clients. That or a new cape. I custom make all my rock scenes and snags and create something to hide it. In the end the client ends up with a custom mount and his original cape. I mount them first and see what's needed when I do the finish work.

    That's exactly what I do!

Yeah, you can spend $45 and have something pre-made that everybody else has....or you can spend $2 and 30 minutes and give your client an original.

The habitat looks nice. But, occasionally we will do a modified wall pedestal for the problem area.

Well the deer is mounted. now gotta come up with the cover up.

i would really like to do Michaels method, but cant find the materials around here. ;/ might have to do some carving instead

I sometimes use real wood from out back but you need to be sure it is dry and bugfree along with some fake grasses. A small habitat scene with a well placed leaf works well at times. Be creative, I'm sure you can come up with something to work.

Last week I had one that had some big drag mark bald spots near the back shoulder. It was a spot that was about 5" at the very back. I cut it out and could have patched a piece in, but it was too big to just sew up. I screwed a couple small pieces of spare foam onto the form, covered them with Michael's rock mix from the DVD, and in about 10 minutes or less I had fixed the problem and it looked better than if I had sewed it.

  14. i use scraps from other deer that we mount . i fine a couple of pieces and glue it in. I have one guy that every year dose the same thing cant help himself so ive learned how . I save every pirce of skin off every deer for at least 2 years works for me , mark c

Always keep a long brisket scrap in the freezer and then sew it in. This works really well and I have done it quite a bit. I keep the scraps from some of my deer that have long briskets.
