Hy guys! Merry Christmas to you all!

Waited for this time of year when I finally have some time to do a bit of molding.
Had a great season in all, and kept a few fish for casting.

Here's a 20lb zander I caught on 10Th of December, on River Danube i Novi Sad, Serbia. My PB for now.

After much thinking, decided on a peacefull, S bend pose, without flared gills and wide open mouth.

Here's the mold I did this weekend...

Still have much work on prepping the mold, but hope to have the cast out for a week or two.
Set a high goal for myself by planning on doing custom molded/painted eyes.

    Fingers crossed :)

    Thanks guys!

Was aware that the fish this size will consume much material on mold making, but I still had to additionally straighten the mold with a good deal of resin and fibre, to avoid cracking it.

    Step closer to completing it...

It's amazing how much they look like our walleye with the exception of the head and markings on the spiny dorsal fin.

What''s the biggest European perch you've seen or caught?

This 20lb Zander is my personal best... The biggest ones caught on Danube River were up to 30lb.

We don't get them very big in Serbia... We rarely hear about catches over a pound, but there are several lakes in neighbouring countries, like Croatia, were you can catch a perch over 2-3lb.

    Interesting.

How is your country doing anyway? Are things getting back to normal after all the warfare that took place there a few years back?

Probably about the same here (uk) Cecil , my biggest perch is 16.5 in long and about 2.5-3lb ? that is a decent perch over here, but they do get up to about 4-5lb. I always thought your yellow perch got bigger, the pictures of them here on taxi net always looked huge, I was surprised to learn how big ( or not !) they got.

    :D
We're OK... going on with life like anywhere else. Chasing EU membership... got home, car, boat mortgages... waiting for that first in the month... spending more than we earn :D... planning holidays and fishing trips abroad... when not fishing, chasing new fishing gear, fighting poachers... etc...etc...etc...

Dang...sounds like the us over here.

  15. Chuppa, can you explain chasing poachers.

I think he said "fighting" poachers John.

Yes, it's an ongoing "Battle" betwen us, sport fishermen, who buy their fishing permits, and have a respect for the nature's and man-made laws, and those who try to profit by netting, electrifying and snagging fish.
Unfortunately, the future doesn't look so bright. In spite of a solid legislation regardin watermanagement, we rarely see poachers brought to justice.

We have the same problem in my area. Additionally C.O.'s and their salaries are not a priority by our politicians. I used to turn in game violations, but with no call back in 2 or 3 days it was a waste of time. Just too much area for them to cover and not enough of them. Violators know that.

Pretty much the same here in the UK, I pay to fish a local river, only to find out local lads are fishing out of season for Salmon and sea run brown trout. Salmon poaching on the "big" rivers used to be a huge problem because the fish are worth a lot of money. Organized gangs were netting rivers all over the country, luckily this seems to have died down now.
The other problem we have here is the fact that you nearly get shot at dawn for taking/killing a fish these days, "trophy" fish are just about a thing of the past over here . Even taking a fish for food is frowned upon, "they" ( do gooders) would rather we bought our fish from super markets it seems. MAD !

  20. Cecil, you should start raising zander. Wish I could go catch one somewhere in the states so I could mount one.
