I don't see any blue on her bill. Maybe it's a monitor thing?

Rick RR GBirds Let's go kill some birds...I'm psyched!

That would be an EXCELLENT show piece as well!

    Hi Gang,
Some Hen Woodies Do have yellow on the tips of their Bills. I may have gone just a little overboard with the yellow (I think that I did say it was a commercial piece) but it is often there to some degree or another.
Check out the Hens on Garth Elroys' Web Page: http://www.featheredfotos.com/Species%20Pages/ducks/wood%20duck.html and the attached photo: [IMG] You can clearly see the yellow on the tips of the lobes. SS: Hen Wood Bills can and do vary quite a bit in color. I have seem them from Blue/Grey to Umber/Brown/Grey with any number of white and Burnt Umber/Bl;ack accent markings as shown above :) There are really a number of "right" ways to paint them.

featherfeeler, you dont have to explain yourself to anybody. its clearly obvious you know what the hell your doing and i think your hen looks amazing. is it a little bright yeah so what. i think it makes her pop. i think shes one of the coolest hen woody mounts ive ever seen. i would be honored to display her in my gameroom and the whole piece for that matter. welcome to the forums and keep posting your work. your sir are a great bird taxidermist and ther aint no client out there that would have a problem with that mount. schite i thought it was a comp piece and to see that its only a commercial piece id be scared to see what a comp piece looks like. thanks for sharing.

Wasnt knocking the mount at all i think its an excellent piece. I was just curious because i kill hundreds of wood ducks each fall and have never seen yellow on the bills. Maybe its a spring thing?

Variation in waterfowl colors......who'd a thunk it ::)

I would gladly take credit for that mount if he didn't.... :)

More variations. (And the amount of white varies a great deal, too - from almost as much as a male to practically none at all.)
