x3 Jerry, I am sure the majority of lions that get mounted that are fresh from the tannery with no flaws don't come close to what you did on that one. Amazing!

 

This smells a lot like a " bromance " to me.. LOL

 

This is the sort of thing that separates the real pros from the day-to-day working guys - even the ones who are very talented.

great saves you two. i just can't believe how people can let such expensive and regal mounts in the first place get into such bad shape, but i am glad we have people like you guys to save them and restore them!

Great that he saved the skin and could use it BUT it looks like a white black bear. The head shape is all wrong!

 

Im sure Dennis knows all about longer muzzles and eye widths, etc. But like he said, its a badly tanned skin and you know ya just cant stretch or move that kind of leather, no less attempt to patch shorter facial hair...at least not at the price our customers are willing to pay. In taxidermy, I have a saying I work by, and Im sure Dennis does too...you learn to take what it gives you, and not push too far.

Regardless of what it was mounted on, it is a spectacular piece and a marvelous save. Congratulations.

 

Ya I thought the thing about it not being a competition mount was a self explanatory point giving the first few posts on here. That is an amazing save no matter how you look at it. Saving and repairing is a whole art form in itself.
I didn't even notice the face shape ext as I was distracted by how nice the eyes, mouth and nose looked! (What a great judge I would make!) Did you cast the nose yourself?
Most polar bear mounts I have seen can't hold a candle to this one and they started with an acceptable specimen. Then again I don't think most taxidermists get too many shots at mounting a polar bear.

Dennis what you said about the customer being THRILLED I am betting was a major understatement! Not only was it salvaged, it had to have exceeded his wildest dreams! I love that look on their face when you repair, restore, or save something they had no idea was possible! Congratulations on probably the best mammal save or repair I will probably ever see. Out of curiosity do you normally keep spare goats just hanging around?
