Can't find the turkey breast panel I need.

I am tackling my first two turkeys this year. One will be a fan/beard/feet and the other a breast mount. Starting small.

I order almost exclusively from McKenzie (because they are close and quick) and have looked at their catalog and then searched around on the web. No luck.

What I need is a breast panel that drops down below the breast with an area for the legs displayed sideways to show of the spurs and still on on th board. I know these exist because years ago I had a turkey mounted one, but I can't find one now.

Can anyone direct me to a panel like this?

    Thanks.

Did you look in the Van Dykes catalog???

Not in their catalog as I am not sure I have one, but I did search their website.

I'd love to help but I have no idea what you are looking for. Never heard of anything like that.

I'll snap a pic tonight and post it up tomorrow. According to the folks at McKenzie, it has been discountinued. :(

I seldom buy panels from the taxidermy suppliers. I use a small company, Kelly Panels in Wilmer, Alabama. If they don't have it, it can be custom made for you. They do sell some solid wood panels but most are hardwood veneer particle board, stained and smooth edged with a good lacquer finish. The carry 4 separate turkey panels and I'm positive one of them will do what you want. They have a toll free number at 1-800-528-1683. Kelly no longer owns the company so I don't know what the answering service says. I do know the number is still valid because I placed an order a few weeks back.

Thanks George! I just spoke with them and they are sending me a picture of one they think will work. Their prices look really good too.

I've used them for years and have never been dissatisfied with anything I got from them. They're "economy" panels but certainly finished 100 times better than most at that price. If they have one issue, it's shipping. Instead of "popcorn" they use shredded paper and they wrap the panels like theyre aboard the Titanic. Shipping costs could be reduced by changing over, but then again, I've never gotten a dinged panel from them.

I did this this year. not exactly what you described but may work for what your looking for. I get my panels from walnut creek hardwood

At least that's actually hardwood and not the cheap ugly plycore crap.

Cole is there anyone or anything you haven't insulted yet? You mist be PMSing today. That "cheap plycore" has just as much real wood visible as the solid wood ones.

Apparently I was overthinking. When I got home and looked, the breast mount I was trying to copy was not actually on a breast mount panel that comes out behind the fan. It is actually on a 12x24 oblong/oval fish panel turned on end. The fan just rests against the wall, the breast part goes at the top and the feet hang out of the breast onto the board at the bottom..... DUHHHHHH. MUCH easier to find. But I do plan to try some panels from those folks George. A lot of my folks request the plycore rather than the solid hardwood panels.

Most people who pay $500 for a deer seldom want to soenduse an extra hundred on solid wood. I actually discourage panels behind shoulder mounts as that's a carry over from years gone by. I use them mostly for bases under small game and birds with a few fir antler mounts and tail fans.

I didn't know I was insulting anyone by stating an opinion, but I guess you were insulted. If you can honestly tell me that there is little to no difference in the panels below then I can't help ya. Keep using those ugly POS's.

I can honestly tell you that when you USE any of those fancy two toned, finger jointed, solid wood panels about 95% of that surface is covered and you're paying (or the customer is) for something he'll never see. The 5% is never noticed by anyone other than the guy's wife who tells him that it doesn't match their furniture.

I'm also telling you that whoever made those fibercore panels did a crappy job on them. The routing and shaping around the outside seems to have been done with a chainsaw and the polyester covering was being rationed by the teaspoon. Kelly panels look NOTHING like those with the edges smoothly and evenly sanded and polished to a high gloss.

Those are Walnut Hollow solid oak and walnut panels, and the ugly plycore ones are sold by the industry leading (and owner of this site) McKenzie Supply.

And that's why I use Kelly Panels.

And Cole, I know they're "solid wood", but if that splicing method was used in manufacturing furniture, no one would pay the price for such a patchwork colored piece. Much of today's "fine furniture" is veneer.

I use bear panels sold by McKenzie. If one of my clients wanted the legs attached I would put them on a separate panel and display them underneath. Then when their wife got tired of looking at those nasty ugly feet she could just take them down.
