I have a nice buck that I wanted to mount with the velvet still on.
what method would be the best way to preserve those? freeze dry or.....
the deer was found in Aug. about 3 to 4 hours after being hit by a car. the rack is
    in great shape.

  4. That is a tricky question. I would soak them in de natured alcohol for a week then take em out let them dry then soak them in borax and water for a few hours.

In my opinion freeze dry is the way to go. I had a set done earlier this year and the results were great, they looked exactly like they did when i sent them out. I used Edgewater Taxidermy and Freezedrying in Minnesota and I couldnt be happier with the end result.

I believe is was $70 plus shipping to and from. Came out to around $100 and since i quoted the customer a price of $150 it worked out well for me and the customer was very pleased with it. One big plus for me was knowing they have been freezedrying for over twenty years and i have the peace of mind knowing they were done right and will have no issues down the road with it. I believe Edgewater has contact info in the services or suppliers section on this site. Galen is a real good guy to deal with and even called me when the package arrived to let me know he got them and that they were still in good shape. Hope this helps.
