This was my first competition and WOW did I learn a ton. Not only is it a blast but it is a great way to miss 5-6 days worth of work and still feel good about yourself. In total I took a blue ribbon and won best in category........not bad for my first. Now Im hooked. Specimen: my 2011 archery blacktail buck. Sorry............but I just had to puff my chest out (Michael P). Thank you all for how much everyone shares and helps one another on this site. I learn so much from everyone. thank you.

Congradulations. Outstanding mount. I am only wondering why you did not fill in/ cover the screw countersink holes with wood putty?

    Well done mate...lovely looking mount.

  13. I used wooden plugs with the correct stain. I just hadn't put them back in after I brought it home. Thing was too tall to bring back as one piece so I broke it down. Thanks for all the comments guys! I find our blacktails in southern Oregon to be a challenge since there are not many forms that fit their physical profile. I fell for Lancaster's blacktail head from Research but it still takes a lot of modification. Can't wait till the next competition. I still REALLY struggle with my ears and the butts.............just can't get the hang of clay and cramming it around the liner. Anyone want to post a pic tutorial or a solid way to form ear butts using clay? U would be my hero!!!!
