I can speak from my own knowledge, because i have a federal wildlife enforcement officer in my family, that this site is well known, which im sure most already knew. And that they do go through the messages on certain topics. What all that entails im not sure. But i can tell you for a fact, 100 percent, that making a person pay shipping costs to get a gifted bird (or them just paying it on their own) is indeed a felony. I dont know who you spoke with but i talked with my cousin today and asked him about this and he told me quite frankly they bust people every day for this. I didnt ask him anything else, but in no uncertain terms, if you ask a person to pay for shipping on a gifted bird, or they just send that money to you without you asking, your still dead in the water as far as they are concerned. And you may be surprised who all is reading these posts. Yes these guys do have much better things to do with their time in alot of cases. But what the common (non taxidermist) doesnt know is that the internet has turned into a huge profit maker for the import and export of illegal animals. And while its not the average game warden or federal officer you have to worry about typically finding your post, its the federal officer they have hired to do solely that. They have people that search the internet as part of their everyday job day in and out, and this site is near the top of the list. This is direct from the horses mouth. Now again, im not sure what gets their attention or not when it comes to what threads they get interested in. If you were selling leopards, yeah youd get it, but a regular duck, who knows? Harlequins and Kings though, i would watch my butt, thats all i can say. I know you made those statements with good thoughts about exchanging ducks but please realize someone probably saw it.

Has anyone acutally been on the receiving end of these fines that you band about. Do they really enforce them in the manner you seem to suggest..?.

You know, as hard as I try, I don't personally know any child molester, bank robber, dope dealer, or murderer. By extension, I can't say that I personally know anyone who's been put in jail, but I DO know of two very well known taxidermists who had to jump through ropes and fight the feds over infractions of the 50 CFR rules. I know one very prominent taxidermist who gets checked about once a month because of suspicions. Here in America such fines are usually "add on's" so that when your case appears in court, you're not facing a single charge but multiple charges. Here, most of us fear the idea of the IRS and tax audits simply because they can ruin your life on "technicalities". The USFWS is much the same way and simply not worth taking the chance on some "gray area". Most people who DO, have the common sense not to talk about it or advertise it.

So guilty until proven guilty. That sucks!!!!!. Here all you have to do is prove when asked where the specimen came from. Take those gull chicks. hard to get (no need to go robbing nests) but when you find a place then really easy after that. I did have to wait years for them mind. That said I am still waiting years for promised skins from taxidermists over here, so no change there then ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Also. So when a trophy collector dies (well all do at some point), what happens to the collection?. A lifetime of touring the globe killing things. Bring it back to the USA and then create a trophy room. Booomm, the next day face down in breakfast and buired a week later. What happens to the collection?

If they're ducks and geese (or endangered/protected species) the can stay with the family or be donated to "educational organizations ". Nonprotected species can be sold but there's not a ready market for most of that.
