  1. met a trapper today who dumps all the bodies after skinning, including skulls, in a ditch on his property. theres 100s of animals there and I get to go look through them. possibly won't be for another month but I'm super excited to add so many possible skulls to my collection. hopefully most of them will be in good shape. he says there are many dif animals there like coyotes, bobcats, lynx, squirrel, rabbit, fox, badger, skunk, beaver, and many more. ill be sure to post what I'm able to find in good shape. :D

What fun. Make sure you do your excavating before this seasons new, fresh layer gets added. Or just wait and harvest the new stuff as it comes in.

  4. yah, i have to wait till after deer season since he's renting out the property till then, I think thats end of november. hopefully won't be any snow then yet.

Wow jackpot! It's a shame to think of all the perfectly good skulls just thrown away over the years

  6. Yeah I know, I guess he used to clean and sell them but got tired of messing with it. At least now they will go to good use and be part of my collection.

Thats is great, just hope he doesnt shoot them in the head or club them, many trappers do, leaving the skull useless...

Hey Wolfgirl, please make a photo series of your massgrave excavations, it will be like digging out an egyptian mummy tombe or a dinosaur graveyard ;D ;D

Good for you! Invest in a couple of gloves... :)

  13. No point in really digging them out unless there are unusual ones in the pit. As this season's fresh ones will probably be more than enough to swamp you and you dont have to deal with digging it out or cleaning maggot ridden mumified heads. Skulls from trappers accumulate quickly.

Most trappers are willing to give you heads or sell them for fairly cheap if you make it worth it for them eg buy bulk. But if they are nice enough to give skulls to you it would not be a bad idea to buy the trapper something-goes a long way with building a good standing.

  14. Great opportunity ! I would try to get them all, or those in good states if some are like roadkills. And you can always pick up supplementary teeth just for fun or future one with missing tooth. As Wouter said, you can play the paleontologist. Wear a suit and dive in the bone mountain :D

  15. Lol yes. And my expression when someone offers me free dead stuff.

  17. I sure will post pictures, I just hope snow isn't here when I do get to go look. not sure exactly how many or what animals are there, I'm guessing just small ones. when I contact him ill ask if any larger animals are there like bears and cougars but more then likely not.

  18. Great find! I am usually looking for craft skulls, so if you ever have any for sale, I'd possibly be interested.

  19. kk, ill let u know if I get any I dont want to keep

  20. got to go today, didn't take pictures because all the bones where spread out along a mile of fence, I got what I could for now and I'm going back in the spring when the grass is gone, the grass was so tall it was hard to find anything, but for now I got about 50 groundhogs, 10 beavers, 10 mink/weasel, 15 otters, 20 raccoons, 5 bobcats, 10 coyotes, 8 foxes, one whole raw mink, and 2 raw otters. I haven't actually counted anything yet so these r just guesses. theres about 100+ coons out there, I didn't take many because they r so common and I ready don't need that many coons, but if anyone wants any, let me know and I can get u some next spring. I also took 2 bags full of ribs, legs, vertebrae, and pelvises. but as expected most skulls are broken, missing teeth, or with bullet holes but some r whole. also have tons of miscellaneous teeth. what I'm going to sell and keep I'm not sure yet, but if anyone is interested in specific ones, I can sell some or grab more in the spring if I find any. I also have about 5 or so random baculums that I probably won't keep.
