Any recomendations for places tobsend a salted hide (turned ears, lips etc) to be fleshed and tanned?

  2. Do it yourself so you can learn how tanning works.

The methods i have been readig call for a fleshing machine after pickle to thin hide. I fleshed with a blade before salting to remove all meat.

The "fleshing" you're talking about is shaving the skin with a fleshing machine. That is where the misunderstanding is.

So do I have to have a fleshing machine to do this myself?

You should if you are going to tan at home, fleshing is removing the raw flesh, shaving is thinning a pickled, or tanned skin. You can flesh, and do shaving both on the same machine.

Carolina Fur is likely closer to you than Wildlife Gallery. Still none of them is going to flesh and turn for you.

Actually, I do. I use to do it myself but I send them out now. Say what you will about this, you're entitled to your opinion.

Micro Tan in Blue Mound Il will do everything for you from a raw green frozen cape to a finished taanned cape with very little work once you get it back. seems like its around 80.00 this way or 40 something if its fleshed, turned and salt dried.

They do great work, I personally tan my own, but have mounted there finished skins and they do an awesome job in my opinion.

It's probably just me, but if I had to take the chance of shipping a frozen hide Next Day or Second Day over 800 miles, damned if I wouldn't invest in learning how to do it myself.

This will really throw you for a loop then! I ship it ground!! 4 day transit, pack in pink insulation. No problems, yet. I do know how to flesh, turn, salt, tan and shave ;). I still do some.

Almost. Ricks son Jeremy provides a prepping service and then turns it over to the tannery.
