    I really like the Timberbuck
I know a Taxidermist in Austria that mounted a sheepskin on a wolfform and vice versa, looked good
did anybody has the link to the alpine buck? i would sooo like to see that.

    Greetings, Karin

Reminds me of a cartoon I saw in a magazine years ago. Two small bucks sitting on the ground reclining against a tree with bones scattered all over and their bellies big and full. One is gnawing on a large femur and the other is holding up the skull of a huge buck and says " Well, so much for the dominant buck." ;D

  5. Pretty Awesome!! I love it!! GREAT JOB!!!

Great job! I really like it. Its strange, its different, but I can see the market, so I like it LOL.

  10. Shasta, I made an inquiry to this site, about these mounts, about 8 yrs ago. I had seen these in Cumberland City Tennessee years ago and posted for information. Damn! I was chastised for even thinking about "novelty" taxidermy. Hell, I was "retarded" !
I also am a "novelty" taxidermist. There, I've come out of the closet
I've always known that I was just a little bit "different" from other taxidermists. Thank you Shasta for having the courage to post your "novelty taxidermy". Now I know, deep in my heart, that I'm not the only one "a little different".
Here's some pics of what I've done. I used a coyote jawset, but I see your wolf set is much more prominent. I like yours better. I'm going to sculpt some of the antler tines to appear to be Indian arrowheads. You can see where I've started.
My "Timberbuck II" Euopean mount is just finished. Wolf eyes and exaggerated tusks.Interesting how great minds think alike!.............Sincerely. John

I'm confident enough to take criticism...I'm not going to stop doing traditional taxidermy but I think novelty mounts done tastefully are worthy of posting. I'm not sure what you have going on wight he ero skull carving but I really like the lip line on that buck, I too started to use a coyote jaw but it just wasn't large enough however your lip line looks more like a panting posture than a snear so the smaller teeth may turn out just fine. There is definitely a large market for mounts like this one and the profit margin is also much larger...never be afraid to be the only one in the room that likes something. Life is too short to hide who we are. I posted this because I know I have turned a few heads that otherwise should never have thought they liked novelties even if they are afraid to admit it....Walter Potter and his work are what got me into taxidermy in the first place.

Well apparently mine is being texted around as well...had a friend from Idaho tell me just a little while ago that he was shown a photo of my deer today by a bartender so I guess it's making the rounds.

    Shasta,
I can appreciate your artistry. I just do fish, and your timberbuck actually looks more deer like than the first deer mounts I had done for me professionally when I was a kid. They look like bug eyed aliens. Still, this sort of thing isn't my cup of tea, but its not my wall it hangs on and it's legal, so who gives a hoot. I could actually see it as a fun project, in facing the challenges of creating a beleivable anatomy, though I'd probably dread it unless it was going to be a movie prop or something, I'm too traditional I suppose. Anyway, good job on pulling off something that really looks like what a timber buck might.
    Best, Scott
