Driftwood Nervana

    Here's one of the spots I go. You can look for hours. Next storm that comes in it turns all the wood over and all new wood comes up.

    I wanted this piece of redwood but it would take 2 people. It's 5 feet long 2 feet at the front and over 3 at the back. 10 inches thick on one side. The picture doesn't do the burl justice. Redwoods my favorite because there is so many wild variations in the wood. The heartwood just never rots and can stay on the beach rolling around for years.

    Depends on you want it broke down. Can you imagine all the redwood decks you could make with that?

    we can't, or aren't suposed to, take driftwood off the beaches anymore. Have to travel to hunt for it. Good thing I've stocked up years ago. Wish I had some beaches like you have DL.

    Nope. It over on the coast at San Gregorio state beach. Park just south of the beach on Hwy1 so you don't have to pay for parking.

    I'm sure it is illegal to gether driftwood in california. their has got to be a endangerd species in their somewhere. if not they will as soon as they think about it. some maybe from japan and maybe radioactive?

    On some beaches you can burn it but can't take it. Most places you can't burn it on the beach.

    This is why I carry a saw and a pack. this six foot hollow piece of driftwood has great possibilities. This was cut off a tree top.[​IMG]

    Yep, it is illegal in California to remove driftwood from the beaches and river shore. Here in Humboldt County we had some men who were gathering redwood that comes down with the floods. They were making fence posts and rails out of it. Keeping the waterways open and making some money. They were busted, fined and are out of business. How much money could the state or Park Service make by selling some of the downed redwood in the parks? Instead they go around and place "property of the state of California" on them. Only in California - can't wait to get out and back to Montana!

    Figures. Where I was getting mine they brought in a tractor and pushed it big piles to clear off the beach for people. The stuff is a nuisance but leave it there. At Pt Reyes national seashore you can get a permit to use driftwood to make a fire but you can't take it.
