1st. Whitetail Shoulder Mount

Not bad for your first deer ever, you used a decent hide paste and if you prepped the hide correctly, you could ditch the pins. It looks like you have some skills, did you tan or use dry preserve. Not that I care, it works. It just appears that way around the eyes.

 

Oh Ken, Ken ,Ken, what a huge difference your brothers first mount would have been if you would have boughten Ricks dvd. I hope that you indeed follow through on buying it. There is a big difference in knowing and guessing. It looks to me that the eye lids were not split open and cleaned all of the way, the meder eyes don't do anything when the eye shape is incorrect. I just know with the skills you have the deer would have had a better chance with a little homework. I am sure your brother will like it.

 

Ok, got me there, the white fat tubes need to be scooped out, did you skim them off the lids, or just split them?

 

Everything looks good but the eyes, you need some good ref pics so you can see what's wrong.

 

Your eyes are a lot better than most firsts I see on here even though they need more work. The antler set is what bugs me about it as they seem to be tilted forward too far. And yes, lose the pins.

Too me looks like way to much clay was used around the eye`s ; witch gives it a bug eyed look. or maybe to much clay under the eye when you set them .

There is more clay under the left eye verses the right eye. I have to ask about the relaxed eyes on a full sneak. Do you have reference showing this? I don't. When I picture a deer in a full sneak, I see him wide awake and evading someone or something. I don't mean deer in the headlights look but not laying in the shade chewing his cud either. A tad more alert than you have would suit me. Tuck those pre-orbitals hair to hair.

Very nice..
My 2cents would say, on the eye's adjust the lids so the lashes lay proper. Looks kind of like they are laying out and back.
Also, you have the hair all combed straight back nice and pretty,,,, should "uncombed" lying down, not back.
