How are you cutting your lip slot?

 

use insect pins and pin the lip line until it dries up some. I use pro 1 hide paste and use a small paint brush to get some of the paste inside the lip line on the form. Hope this helps.

 

I'm thinking along the same lines as brad it may be possible that your lip slot is two wide. You have to remember that when you tuck your skin it is still somewhat hydrated making it plump and looking like a good fit but when it dries it will lose its thickness and can only partially fill the gap you created. If you are sure that it is pulling the lip line apart you have too tight of a fit or are pulling the skin away from the lip line when taxiing the skin. You need to taxi the skin toward the lip line and keep working it that direction each day as it dries. My lip slots are so tight that when I tuck the form slightly pries apart so that it has that force pushing the tucked skin together.

 

It also sounds like the lip slot is too deep. If it is pulling the bottom "jaw" down then either the cuts on the lip line are meeting or there is not enough foam to hold it together.

 

Sounds to me like the skin isn't thin enough and you are gettting alot of shrinkage and pull on the form opening it up slightly. Also proably not giving enough slack in skin towards the mouth as Vince said.

 

sounds like you are cutting the lip slot into the form too much and weakening the form. Make sure you are cutting the lip slot UP and not straight in. I would also think maybe the whole lip skin needs more thinning. Being thick would make it draw up more as it drys, therefore pulling the lip of the form down.

 

BINGO!, I'm going to go out on a limb and bet he's cutting the slot in instead of up. I did that for almost a year 13 years ago and it was one of my biggest blunders to date

 

Stretch the chin and nose skin, then do a tight tuck, sink the hair into the slot, then taxi the extra skin towards the slot, you want loose skin pushed up to the slot.

 

Make sure to thin your lip skin good, use a good adhesive and let the lip skin dry out a bit before tucking thus minimizing shrinkage. Should stay in place without pinning it.
