I've caught two coons and a small mess of possums this year. And cats! I hate frikkin' cats. I use live traps at the moment but I'm starting to gather foot traps. If I find another goddamned idiot kitty in my traps so help me...

What do you guys do about cats? I take them and dump them a couple miles away at the moment. I hate it because they are destructive as hell and just unpleasant animals.

    I'm a dog person - can't ya tell? :D

The coyotes are gone around here in the east, word is Distemper has hit them hard. I havent had the first hit this year, Baitpile out since November and had 1 yote visit, nibble on a beaver carcuss, and leave. I have caught some nice beavers so far this year, but as far as land, almost nothing. I have caught 6 coons and that is it. I know a guy that this time last year he had caught over 100 yotes on a 10 mile stretch of farmland beside a river, This year Not a one.

A friend of mine trapped a white one with a little darker back and ask me to mount it... Its my first coon and I told him something like that he should take to a professional. But he insisted I mount it for practice... I just got it mounted. when its finished Ill post pics... this one had a darker skin color under his white fur so his back looks a little gray! very cool animal

Its a White Mountain Cur . . . must have some Plott in him somewhere to get the brindle, but he's a cur dog. Great coyote decoy dog.

Picked this guy up last month. A little early for the fur buyer, so I thought I'd take a shot at mounting him. Haven't done a full body before so it may end up interesting. The ground was a lot flatter before he found the trap, but then they have a habit of doing that.

Cameron2 - I was wondering how many times your dog has been bit getting that close to a trapped yote?

The only cats I ever catch are dead already in conis runnin coon trails. Hard to feel bad about a dead ferral cat ;D, they are a renewable resource. Pitch and reset.

Quit using fishy baits and things like dog food that have animal products in them. Nothing but opposum, skunk, and cat baits. Start using sweet baits. Coon love it and you won't catch many if any at all of the useless critters. There are various sweet baits you can make yourself or buy from suppliers but marshmellows spritsed with water and rolled around in koolade powder and jello packets works well. Careful though you might catch yourself eatting your bait ;D.

I went with more sweet baits this year to cut down on unwanted catches in my coon traps.

My sister has some big apple trees so I picked up a bunch of windfalls and used those in buckets and cubbies. Also I have a customer that is a grain elevator. I'd trade deer jerky and deer brats to them for corn for my deer feeders. I have another customer that gave me some raw molasses used for cattle feed. I mixed the molasses with the corn for a good smelling sweet bait.
