    I completely turned this ear.

    Removed cartilage.

I see no way to place an ear liner into the top lobe.

I was thinking of cutting the liner to extend through the small opening and at least make a good outside edge.

Do I fill the bottom portion with bondo?

I really do not want to split the ear open.

    Options?

    Thanks

George The older I get, the better I was.

Why can't you get that top lobe?

Let's start with the "Bondo" comment. Leave the Bondo in the cabinet with this one. Don't use the word again.

Take your ear and carefully split the skin around the hole and the slit. Insert the ear liner and mark the bullet hole.

    Cut out the hole only.

Now, WITH A GOOD 5 MINUTE EPOXY, paint your earliner heavily and insert it into the skin. Arrange the skin to fit around the hole and to mesh together where there's a slit. Have some lacquer thinner handing and wet a paper towel with it. Wipe away the bigger globs that may ooze out. and leave it alone. Babysit the job until you feel the ear getting hot. That means the epoxy is curing. This is the time to carefully comb the hair out. The epoxy at this time is a bit like Jello and will come out easily.

Now I'm going to break Low T's heart and tell you that you can go back and put a bit of epoxy glue along the seam. Set cotton balls over the glue and let it harden. Pull away the cotton balls and leave the fine tufts of cotton to hide those seams. On the back side of the ear, you can use epoxy and snip bits of hair to cover the seams.

If you want to eliminate the bullet hole completely, then don't cut the hole out of the earliner. Install the same way and use the same techniques during the repair.

  3. That's NOT a bullet hole, it's a Tag hole. I see it all the time on breeder bucks

That crease along the top edge does look a bit like a tag, but around here, a 12 gauge shotgun slug does a job just like that.

    Thanks for your time George.

Young man wants to retain the "bullet" hole. Has it on a trail camera this past year.

This is a buck most would not spend money on to mount, but it is a trophy to him.

Pretty sure it is a wild northern Wisconsin buck...not a big money guy.

Trying to get my business up and running and really want that ear to look good. He likes the character of it.

    Thanks!

I did an ear last year that looked just like that ear. I did it just as George said and it turned out great. Split the ear to the tip, slide in ear liner and trace the hole.

  7. Krafty, if you have time, would you mind taking pics of the process? If this turns out well for you, perhaps you could share? I'm curious to see this process pan out... :)

    Hi Charmer!

Do my best to honor your request...sometimes I forget why I walked Into the next room.

Just put cape in pickle yesterday.

Will start with a picture of a perfectly turned ear around the hole and slit.

After admiring my handy work and patting myself on my back, I realized something was amiss. Good thing I have learned to laugh at myself.

Pics are distorted, but I am happy with out come.

Young man wanted tear left in ear as well.

I just closed it up some to make the hole stand out more.

    Thanks for the help!
