Deer ears ??

    Had a guy bring me a deer to repaint it's been mounted along time .. His grandpa mounted it and he does want it remounted just cleaned and touched up . I'm sure he used dp but anyway the ears are drummed bad I can't believe they aren't cracked open. Would it help if I took a needle and injected hide paste n them like a filler or should they just be left alone ??

    other than soaking the ears down and injecting some paste or hide glue you are sol....as George mentioned its better left alone you might soak it and all the hair fall off..who knows?

    Just be honest with the client, tell him you can try to fix it but it may make crack in the process. Let him decide.

    I believe I will leave them alone .. I just thought something might keep them from crackin on down the road .. I really can't believe they haven't already

    I've got one like that in process now. The ears were drummed some, but the ragged ear edges was the real problem. After cleaning the mount, I ignored the slight drumming and just wet the hair down, brushed the hair striaght and carded the ears. Once they dried, the edges were crisp and the ears look 10 times better. Fixing the drumming would have required a lot more work than I would have been able to do on the estimate I gave him for the repairs.
