  3. Awesome birds everyone. I'm still pretty slammed on mammals but as promised here is the Sandhill crane rug all finished. I was going to trim the head down as advised but the customer asked me to leave it. Your flying one looks great! I've got one to do "dancing" soon.

  4. I like the backing dsc. Turned out very nice. I assume you removed the wing bones completely?

  5. Yes I did. Quite a bit of meat in them up to the "thumbs". Removing the bones also helped with putting the curve in to turn them up. It was a easy bird to flesh. Its also the first bird i used the no solvent method on. Thank you Nancy for that tutorial! I washed it in dawn dozens of times but didn't have a headache when done. Lol.

I still have several issues with it at the neck and neck junction area. If I get to do more I will pay more attention on that area.

I actually really enjoyed this piece and hope to do more. I considered a lot of backing ideas from fabric, barnwood, etc. I chose to use these colors as the painted tan feathers were the reason he wanted it done in the first place and he has barnwood walls in his show room so I wanted it to stand out against that. He's a bachelor who lost his wife of many years and now he pretty much lives in his great room / trophy room and goes hunting everywhere. He seems to miss her so much and I'm sure would never remarry. He is a good friend and I really hope he likes it.
