Big Buff

    I've soft tanned a few buffalo capes, this is my first attempt at a shoulder mount. Don't know how excited I am about doing another. :-\

    We raise Bison and we shoot around 250 each year. So I end up doing a lot of them. I love doing them. I don't like fleshing them! Steven, Yours turned out very well. Just don't brush it out so perfectly, take a look at some photos, their hair is nappier. (If that makes sense.)

    It does make sense, and believe me brother, being an art major, I've studied reference for the better part of 40 years. I would have left it nappier but the hair was caked with mud, hay and burrs, so it had to be brushed out. Sometimes mounts are a certain way because the taxidermist has to deal with the specimen he's given.... ;) If you've done a bunch then you probably know what I'm talking about...

    I did not say Steve didn't do a good job, I know Steve and know his skills. I like what he did and all the work he does the man has some wicked skills.



    You know it would not be on the wall in her house for sure.

    I've done many bison and sheep and I always comb them out. Otherwise it's dang near impossible to get all the fox tails and crud out. Most people want a pretty animal. True most bison look exactly like Steve's picture, but clients don't usually want it that authentic. I use an air compressor and brush and stop when I can't see any fox tails or crud anymore. There are still some because I can never get it all, but I get what I can.
