OTS True Eyes Question.

Nothing at all. I paint right over top of them and clean off with Popsicle stick that I cut down and flatten the end like a tiny chisel

 

I have use tru eyes for many years,,, I don't treat them any differently than glass really I do clean paint off of them with denatured alcohol as laquer thinner will remove the factory finish..... I spray automotive clear coat over the eye when I finish the mount if you do end up with any scratches the clear coat will make them disappear and is just as durable as the factory finish on the tru eye

 

Everybody has given you good advice so far.
But if you want to, you can apply molding latex over the exposed eye the day before you paint, let it dry over night. Then the next day after you do your painting, just peel the latex off the eye and you have less over spray to clean off. We do this with both Tru Eyes and glass eyes.

I love OTS forms but I tried the eyes and just not impressed with the plastic eyes.

 

I use a brush & "paint" liquid auto wax on them--just be sure to keep it off the skin. After painting, I brush the eye with the same toothbrush I am using to remove over spray from the lashes & hair. There are usually some stubborn spots that I use wood to remove the paint from the eye.

 

I use the tru eyes and use a product called liquid frisket. I just put it on and let dry before painting. Once painted I use a round toothpick and just peel it off then use toothpick to clean around the edges were there wasn't any frisket.. It works on the same order as eye protect but cheaper. Have never had any problems. Believe Walmart carries it or a Pat Catans or Hobby Lobby should. It's been so long since I have bought any. Small bottle lasts forever

 

I use wooden skewers that you can find in the grilling section of most grocery stores...I think they work better than tooth picks.

 

Clean with denatured alcohol. Beautiful eye.

 

I just use Mod Podge over the eye...it comes right off after it dries with a little help from the Bamboo Skewers I use around the eyes.
