Company to Ship Deer Mount Recommendations?

Discussion in 'The Taxidermy Industry' started by Sandy, Nov 17, 2014.

  1. Does anyone have a recommendation on companies to ship a deer mount through? I am getting crazy prices. I do have the box built. Its 24"x25"x36" and weighs 60 pounds. The lowest quote I received was $170, or does that sound like a decent price?

Depends on how far it's going. Who has low bid? Did you try any freight expediters?

  3. No I haven't. What companies should I check? Its going from NJ to Georgia. Gentleman is in the Coast Guard and was transferred.

Have you guys/girls ever tried Greyhound? It's been many years, but I've shipped things with them. It's not as convenient as door to door service, but maybe more cost effective. I don't know.

I will mention, I took a bus to Va Beach once..My luggage and I somehow became separated in a DC transfer. My bags continued on their own little trip around the Carolina's. It was 4 days before we were reunited.
One of those damned if you do. Damned if you don't situations.

EA is dead on with bus line. I used to ship mounted deer from Georgia to Texas by bus. I would place heads in cardboard boxes much the same as the size your talking about. Freight was about $32-35 per box. These boxes are handled just like luggage and there was never any damage. Plus, most times the boxes are never offloaded to another bus and go straight through. I used this to transfer my wholesale work for two years and like I said, never had a single issue. But as has been mentioned, someone has to go to nearest terminal to pick up once it arrives.

I use Scott Stagg of Stagg Transport exclusively, Scott understands the needs and issues of shipping taxidermy work across the United States, and he's reasonably priced.

I ship Pronghorns across the country in a crate about that size threw FedEx and it usually runs about $150.00. Make sure they are packed good. Bigger antlered animsls either go ABF freight or Trophy Transport for lifesize with no crating.
