If someone has this form on hand would you mind taking a measurement from the tip of nose to the back of the form?

    Thanks

  2. I had one just leave the shop last night so I'm not going to be much help, but i can tell you it took a lot of back skin.

  3. I would call Mckenzie - they will measure one and get back to you pretty quickly. At least they have for me when I called them to measure a couple Elk forms.

  4. I did one last year and if I remember correctly it was about 26/27 inches down the back. It was one of the larger sizes.

You will need close to mid back and then some if you plan to wrap it over the rounded back of form. There's a lot of twisting of the cape to wrap around the neck, don't go overboard on the size.

I would get a form that is at least an inch or more smaller around the ears of the tanned cape

KFlAH, did you have an issue with one? Do they run big or is it just for ease of mounting?

With the extreme twist, you just want to be a little smaller on the form. I usually get a couple extra inches stretch out of a cape from what my meat measurement was (I use Krowtan), so if you stick with the meat measurement you should be fine.

To answer your question though, yes I did have a problem with one. I sent a few capes out last year (I always tanned my own capes until then, and will always tan all of them from now on) and when I got them back I could not stretch any bigger than my meat measurement. It was quite a headache to get a cape on that form that measured the same.

In my personal opinion I do not care for how the back goes out way further than normal.... I just mounted one and really liked how it turned out, but i cut the back down by maybe 4" and sanded it back to smooth rolling edge and i was very happy with the results....personal preference but I know other guys who are doing the same thing.

Ended up calling McKenzie like you suggested. 38" TIP OF NOSE TO END OF BACK!!!!! Holy cow.

Ditto on ordering a touch smaller on that form. I haven't actually measured one to compare to the size it says it is, but they seem to run big.
