I would LOVE to paint my own eyes, and have attempted it in the past with results I haven't been satisfied with. I love the very fine detail and flecks of different colors I've seen in some commercial eyes and haven't gotten that so far. I'm sure there is a good source for instructions and tips on that--any recommendations?

This post made me laugh. The more things change, the more they stay the same. Denny plugging eyes that no one wants...reminds me of the good ol' days.

Have to laugh.......shameless plugging........nobody ever does that on taxi net, eh? You did give me a great idea though, Joe.......a mirror site, or maybe 5 of them to get more business........Northeast Taxidermy (drab name) Coast to Coast...(not all that original) ....how about "Universal Mind-Bending Piscatorial Replicas " made in old school fashion and painted as such?

Is this a rip off of Grays? King Sailfish? Are they all the same??

Cole.....are you not the one who hid during the 2009 World show thinking ol'Bucko was going to wring your scrawny neck? Never did get to meet you there. Thanks for not introducing yourself. Sorry about any former references to "southern Cole slaw" but hey, eyes nobody wants? I believe Lou Wynia's son sat there and painted them. Did you ever come up and give a critique? Oh no.........

Yes, lots of folks want these eyes, and buy them. Lure manufacturers, carvers (who tend to be more particular about eyes than most and cannot get anything decent in 8mm) .

Perhaps using plural in World Awards was in error........but Tyler Erickson did so,,,,,,,,,Steve Silseth could easily win a world championship, Dave Woodell, oh, I can name plenty more, but it would not add any mustard to your slaw Cole.

Hey, this was the best weekend entertainment I have had in a long time. Even better than the TV show than Teddy Nugent! Ice Road Truckers? Who could have thought to that 20 years ago?

Speaking of douchebaggery...........how about those T-shirts with the shark jaws???? I can design fish eyes for discriminating folks, but ripping off a T-shirt logo..........Hell, a 2 year old can do better.

Frank......spel chick doos not alwaaaays woork evin fur those hoo yous it!

Denny plugging eyes no one wants? Wut? They look great to me. I'm going to order some. Want to order less and less from McKenzie anyway. Shipping from NC is killing me.

Yeah, the Stehlings, Dave Wooddell, all a bunch of losers, eh? Not everyone wins World awards..........but plenty that use these eyes could.

Cole Slaw.........same as always........guess things down south don't change much........like since the Civil War.

Get off your rotted plank 1 fish 2 fish.........red fish.....douche fish.........this one has fins too thick.........this one is clunky and not too slick......logos I like to copy......my fish look a little sloppy..........

    Shall I go on?

    Ba ha ha ha ha!

Good to see Denny is still batspit crazy.

I suppose I will address the comments you made that I was able to comprehend. I appreciate being called scrawny, that's never happened before. In 2009, (7 freaking years ago) I met Buck Rodgers in a hotel room at the show. I believe we were playing cards, but I don't think Buck played. I know Kerby Ross and Michael P. played, and several others but my memory isn't so good as to who. I do remember that while Buck was talking it up with everyone there, (and there were a lot of people in there) you stood in the corner with your head down. I never saw you talk to a single person the entire time you were there. I know there were pictures from that night on here somewhere, but I wouldn't know how to find them.

I have no recollection of Lou Wynia, or anyone else for that matter, painting eyes at that show. I wasn't there when that happened.

You may want to brush up on your Civil War history, MO never seceded from the union. I guess anything south of 007 is "down south".

  10. I really like the eyes Dennis sells.

  11. I'm currently working on a smallmouth as well and am using a 12mm smallmouth flex eye. I find them "to red" actually but will use it anyways just to get rid of them. I like the flex eyes for LMB and pike but that's about it, I've purchased a few eyes from den007 and like his way better, just my 2 cents.

  12. I think Van Dykes Natural Eyes are the best pre painted eye available. Not as red as a flex eye.

I've actually lightly painted over a flex eye and clear coated it to tone it down with no issues.

I will say that I like what I have seen of Denny's eyes Thus far, I have only used his Largemouth bass and crappie eyes. They have depth to them, just like a real fish eye, and have worked well for me so far. I can offer nothing but praise for the service, and the non-inflated shipping cost. As for competition, I played that game from 1982 to 1991, and know that it is not always the most realistic, and lifelike that wins. I have entered, and won on many levels when I competed, and judged several levels, but it did not make me a better person, and after the shenanigans that went on at the NTA in Reno (1991) I saw the light. Competition made me a pompous, arrogant ass, and I almost lost my family over it.

Thus, by agreement with The Creator, and a 25-year hiatus, I will not enter any future competitions. They are about pride, and pride leads to sinful behavior. If I can do a recreation that pleases both The LORD, and my customer, then I am happy. I use what God created as my standard, and feel no need to "improve on it." From what I have used, Denny's eyes do quite well to meet that level of reality.

Oh, and I am molding a few new Fish Clones for myself, and they are NOT for sale. As for the smallmouth eyes, John Crossley is gone to meet his Maker, so we get what is available. He used to customize my fish eyes back in the day. Maybe Denny can at some point but keep up the good work, and strive to please God, not the world.

This is kind of a load of crap. Just because something led you to "sinful behavior" doesn't mean is is sinful. I also don't think the Lord cares what your fish look like. I'd think he would be more concerned with things like honesty, faithfulness (to him and your spouse), kindness, generosity, and how loving you are towards family and others. I think the Lord has more important things on his mind, but perhaps I should ask him if he prefers Lumsden lenses over flex eyes. ::) Give me a break

I love it when people make an ass of themselves (your words, not mine), then blame something like a taxidermy competition for their actions. Like it or not, most people find events like that extremely beneficial to their development as a taxidermist, and they gain knowledge, experience, and perhaps recognition without destroying anything in the process.

BTW.....thanks to those of you who actually admit to using the trashy eyes I helped create. I cannot take full credit for the full line of eyes, only a small portion of it that I market. The company is based in Belarus and is top notch. Google it. If you buy in quanity and want to pay customs, you can get them direct......I could care less. If you have a calculator, you can do the math. Nobody is gettin' rich on fish eyes. Most are disgusted with the inflated prices for generic crap, glass, pad printed with pixels, etc. I do not care how good you are with an airbrush, you cannot imitate the intricate photographic process used to create some I helped with. Eyes4taxidermy.com

Are they competition eyes? Some say yes. If the rules are you have to paint your own, well, lots of ways to do that. Do most customers really care? I don't think so. Do most of us "blue collar" backwoods commercial taxidermists care?

So rant, squeal, support the status quo...you will be in great company when Hillary is President. ;)

For what it is worth, I too, like Den's eyes. I've only used them so far for panfish but I like them as well or better than any I have used to date......

Geez, I thought this was about RED eyes, not Den's eyes.
