What paints work best for the finish work on a whitetail mount? Should I use water or lacquer based paint? Just looking for some opinions and why you may feel one is better than the other. Or why it may work better for you in particular. Thanks in advance.

I prefer water base as the less fumes the better and easier to clean. Not that breathing water based vapors are non toxic, just not a volatile.

Ditto what Paul B says. I use water base paints on all mount fish included. And if you live in the cold climate you can still use the open flame heater with water based paints!

  5. I like using polytranspar. They have really good color and coverage. Same as above, use water based, also wipes off the hair easier if you have overspray.

I always use hydro mist water based paints and thin them down with rubbing alcohol. I bought some Polytranspar water based paints and when they say airbrush ready, they mean airbrush ready. No need to thin those ones.

With the water based polytranspar should I use the transparent,iridescent,opaque/semi opaque. What works best?

Transparent and iridescent are for fish work mostly . I'd stay away from them . For any mammal work I use opaque and semi opaque paints . Every one has their own way of painting a whitetail . There is always more than one way to skin a cat .
