Check out mears off set sweeps. Cool looking pose that is similar to a wall pedestal.

 

Also Trufitt carries the Lancaster monster whitetail series, that has a semi sneak wall pedestal, that is 25 1/2 over the atlas.

 

A good taxidermist should be able to provide his customer with this imformation. Threw catalogs and experience.

 

Just did one this year on a Mears.... Great form.....

 

Your taxidermist shouldn't be having you do their work for them. It's up to them to find the form and make it look the way you want it to look.

Mears is the way to go!

 

If you want a short necked deer use a Mears, Combs would be a better choice IMO

 

There are plenty of forms that size available.

Plus if your taxidermist cannot modify the form to fit or be a wall ped. you might think about their experience being small.
A couple hours and the form can be modified.

 

BILL YOX, where are you when I need you. Now I just gotta say it. TWENTY SIX INCHES AROUND THE ATLAS???? REALLY??? Was it a game farm deer? And Alberta deer? Perhaps even a Saskatchewan brute? I've killed some big deer in my time and I've been with people who've killed big deer, but 26 inches is elk size "around the Atlas". Before she died, Connie killed a 425 pound game farm deer that was 24 1/2. My buddy killed a 375 pounder in Saskatchewan that was 24. If it was truly a 26, you SHOULD be particular in what form is used because it's a once in a lifetime deer likely.

 

George I think it just depends on where the deer comes from. I don't tan up to many smaller ones that come in from around here. Small is usually 24" and I have tanned up some that where 29" at the atlas.

 

I just tanned up my personal deer from this year. It was 27 inches at the atlas. It was the biggest necked deer ice ever shot here in northern Minnesota.

 

I get 2-3 that size in Iowa every year since I started in 2011. Biggest was this season, 28" tight behind the ears, 7 year old buck that scored in the 150's. I used Revolution Intimidator for them, perfect fit for our Iowa bucks.

 

That's strange George. I have a south Texas deer that easily goes 25" at the ears green and 27+" over the atlas.. Probably a 250# pound wild deer.

 

Now Tim, you just gotta stop using that metric tape measure. I've seen Texas bucks. I ain't NEVER seen a South Texas buck weighing anywhere close to 250 pounds field dressed. Them are iddy biddy deer compared to the Albertan and Saskatchewan brethern. So pulling a 25 inch neck behind the ears sounds a whole lot like "everything is bigger in Texas" stretch.

A True South Texas low fence buck can go 250 plus on the hoof, no problem. I get in bucks field dressing out from 200-220 every season. A cape 23" - 25" are common.
When people say Texas deer are small, well you're not talking about True South Texas.
