George, please share these pics you saw of how this world show was so pitiful with people's attire that made you post this topic.

Without photo proof that is public knowledge, it just shows you need some attention as usual.. I was at the world show 5 days and never saw your description of our community.

I haven't been to a world show but I guess if I ever go, I might need someone to dress me then. Some of us just aren't good with that stuff!

I thought it was pretty classy as well. Although I did not wear a suit I had a nice pair of khakis and a nice polo shirt. I did not see any of the typical redneck taxidermists
    mentioned.

I'm not about to post pictures of guys with their mounts as I don't want to pick on individuals, but you guys are in denial if you don't think there were SOME there who dressed like that. Do some searching of your own and you'll see what I saw posted on Facebook. Obviously I wasn't there and it sounds as if many (if not most) followed Larry and Kathy's desires. Yet I've been a taxidermists all week and I know there's always SOME who make bagmen jealous.

  7. Well George like you said....you weren't there. Was there the odd handful that missed the mark on attire...Yep. But the description laid out in your post simply is not accurate.

Your post started out as the "winners with their mounts" looking shotty in attire, now it's "some" at the show of 700 people plus? This was an all around classy event, and I wonder why as an ambassador of this art you feel the need to put it down?

A suit doesn't make the man, dammit. George I understand your position on this but, why is it that you and some others feel that folks have to conform to your expectations? The mounts were judged, the competitors should not be. Were these pictures that you claim to have seen on social media actually at the ceremony or were they before or after? The worlds is owned and operated by Larry and Kathy and they can set a dress code for the awards ceremony but if they start denying possible paying customers, if you will, it may not be a wise business decision.
I myself feel much more comfortable in blue jeans and a t-shirt but if I was attending an awards ceremony as such, I would at least put on my best pair of jeans and a nice button shirt. I don't own a suit.

Brian, sometimes you make the most silly assed comments. You mean one turd in the punchbowl shouldn't have any effect on the rest of the punch? The pictures I saw were not the professional photos that Ken takes but they were damned well out there on the internet on several sites. When those are the ONLY pictures you see, what would YOU think? This exactly why taxidermy will never be the front line industry. We come up with these fancy and sweet names for our businesses yet when you visit there, you get Sandy Garland's seminar portrait. The damned undertaker for your funeral who does much the same thing as you do without skinning and tanning your hide will still be dressed in a black suit, white shirt and tie. But I'm wasting my breath. You can't ever take the country out of some folks but even I dressed up for church on Sunday.

Larry runs a class act there, but what some of you fail to understand is that it's a PRIVATE VENUE and Larry doesn't need to ask anyone for permission to do anything. You guys want to focus on the WTC (where Larry requires a modicum of a dress code) while I've been to dozens of NTA and state shows and seen our act in full technicolor. The WTC was only used as an analogy of the industry as a whole. If, as Billy respectfully admits, an "odd handful" miss the boat on an event as large as this, tell me again how it's not dreadfully worse at the NTA, UTA, the Headquarters show in Raleigh, or at your local state events. You guys act as if I just fell off the turnip truck.

Last month, my business partner (sister) met a girl at a mutual friends wedding who is the CFO of a very large nursing facility. Over 3000 employees between all their campuses.

They got to talking and thought we may be able to help train some of their staff. A meeting was set to discuss. I invited one of our most knowledgeable billers for back-up.
I let her know, we have a sit down with this CFO and some other management. She's no nonsense. Stick to the subject. No war stories, etc. .... I thought that was enough.
I met her in the morning and when she got out of her car she had on a hoodie and some stretch pants. I thought to myself, "this is not the image we want out front".

We then picked up my sister. She traveled from Florida and brought very little. She proceeds to mention she forgot her shoes had to buy a new pair just for the meeting. Turned out, they have a "No Open Toe" policy.
Our girl then says "No open toes?, I have on flip-flops" ::) I never noticed (guy thing). My sister's jaw hit the floor. Flip Flops to a conference with top management  It was too late to change anything, so we went to our meeting.

One of the department heads met us at the door and led us to the conference room. Of coarse it was down what seemed like a 3 mile hallway...flip flop, flip flop, flip flop all the way down the hall. "Barb" left her hoodie in the truck and had on a nice top. At the conference room we met the CFO and others. They had a nice breakfast spread prepared for us of fruits, yogurts, danishes, coffees and juices. We all sat down, ate, chatted and had a very productive 2 1/2 hr meeting. "Barb" was very helpful and I was glad she was there with us.

No one mentioned the shoes, or lack of. No one seemed offended. I'm not even sure anyone noticed.

The next day, they asked for a proposal and we signed a training agreement last week.

I know I had a lot of anxiety going in. This meeting could mean thousands of dollars. Based on the little I knew of this CFO, I figured we blew it in the first 2 seconds. One the way home, "Barb" says, "I had to really dig in my closet for something business casual" :).One thing was certain, It bothered me more than it bothered anyone else. Except for my sister. LOL. I guess sometimes the end product or the knowledge trumps the packaging it comes in.

Brian, I stand corrected. You can't get any more ignorant than faked sympathies to someone who neither needs it or wants it. That's a sad commentary at best.

EA, as you see here, sadly the entire world has accepted having no pride in themselves or their appearance. Foie gras is still goose liver.

Lots of classy people there! Heck- I even broke out a dress and heels! There's always one in every crowd...but all in all it was a class act evening. Larry, Kathy and Ken are the definition of class. I consider it an honor to be there.
