Anybody else use Ace's clear lacquer sealer in an aerosol can?

    My local Ace says the clear lacquer sealer has been discontinued. I find this hard to believe as there are still the other colors available. They have excess black so I'm thinking they over ordered and want to hold off on ordering more of the clear.

    I plan on checking with the main headquarters tomorrow but wondered if any one else uses this product and have found this also? If it is the case, I may hit some other Aces's and buy up their stock. I really like this stuff for sealing fish.

    I've been using the closest thing I can find, which is Krylon's clear lacquer gloss. Does the job but takes longer to dry due to being heavier bodied.

    True value carries a clear. Did you check their website. Maybe order a case at a time.

    I think you're talking of the final clear coat? I was referring to the initial lacquer sealer I use before painting.

    I buy clear lacquer in spray cans at Walmart. Not sure of the name, but I like it.

    Thanks JL but my local Walmart doesn't carry it. I checked. (Even if I did shop there which I don't).

    I'll see if I can get it online. And brick and mortar stores wonder why they are losing business. Go figure .

    I use "envirotex Lite" for final clear. Brush/pour on and it leaves a glass like finish with no aerosol spraying.

    Ahh some of you guys... Read more carefully. I'm not talking about final clear coats. I'm taking about a lacquer base sealer I use before painting the fish.

    I do just fine for a final gloss using an automotive clear coat. No more issues using it vs. all the other products out there.

    I use Bullseye shellac in a can for base sealer, I get it at Home Depot, works for me, I started using it after I noticed several on here used it.

    It comes in an aerosol can?

    Unfortunately for me Home Dept is at least 40 miles away but I suppose if I stock up for a while...

    Yes it comes in an aerosol can, I'm not saying Home Depot is the only one that carries it, you may find it at any number of hardwares.

    Agreed. And in fact you can actually use the brush-on version as well as it's awfully thin. Maybe a tad thicker than what you can do with the spray shellac and the brush-on stuff may not be for you. But another benefit (or should I say the main benefit) to the brush-on shellac as a sealer is you can lightly sand some species so that your customers can clean them easily (walleye especially as otherwise they are a p.i.t.a. for your customers to clean!) Of course you don't want to sand too much where you're taking away detail or you start getting under your sanding sealer! But, just enough on a walleye where you can drag a paper towel edge across the fish after sanding without the paper towel catching. Again, your customer's will appreciate it!

    Got a menards near you? They carry Watco lacquer in gallon cans, thin it a bit in a $18 harbor freight hvlp gun. I leave it right in the spray gun, never had a problem with it spraying.

    Nearest Home Depot is at least 45 minutes from me. And one of the original founders is a rabid Trump supporter so I don't shop there. I have found it on Amazon for less and it's free shipping. The wife also has Amazon Prime.

    I looked and even asked for help. Wasn't any. I have found websites aren't always accurate. In store computers too! How many times have we heard the following: "The computer says we have 8 left, but we don't have any on the shelf."

    No worries will get it cheaper from Amazon and no shipping charge. No driving eating up time I could be in the shop making money.

    I agree, not worth a special trip. I check the website out of habit as the nearest menards etc is 65 miles away. Where do you get your topcoat from? I wouldn't have a local supplier for the automotive stuff.
