Three Bears, here are the only pictures I could find of the winner of the ASOB that I entered at the World Show in 1989. I can't believe I found them after 29 years laying in a box full of photos! I forgot that I had also entered it in the Worlds also. I don't remember if it was in pro or masters but that's the ribbon. I do remember that Frank Newmeyer was the judge.
Sadly enough "OOPS" met his fate later that year at the Missouri show when a 4 year old fan of his kidnapped him off the table during the public viewing and in the ensuing tug of war with his mom "OOPS" sustained massive injuries and I had him put down the next day. This is no lie! you can't make this stuff up.

It's tough when there are witnesses around who were also present. At the 91 ASOB I did indeed fall off the stage (backwards in fact) while giving my narration about my perfect ringneck before pulling it out of the box. I didn't remember cutting my finger however there was the consumption of alcohol involved during that ceremony so anything is possible.
I have the VHS tape in my possession and will see if I still have something in the house that will play VHS. I will also see about getting it transferred to digital so perhaps I can post it or at least parts of it. If the audio is decent it would at least give some people an idea of how the proceedings played out.
I also have a cassette tape of The taxidermy rap" done by Mark Frazier before rap music was even a household name. It was incredibly creative and well done as Mark was a musician before he was a fish taxidermist and woodcarver.

Fishmaster, your comments made me search through my VHS archives and I found the infamous "Taxidermy Rap" by Mark Frazier with a music video I made featuring scenes from the 1987 and 1988 ASOB competitions. Keep in mind this was edited on VHS tape so the quality is not that great, but it is an amazing blast from the past!

WOW! Thank, Ken! Is there another ASOB in our future?

Sorry about the previous post last night. I just arrived at the West Region comp. and the WiFi at my room was clicking off and on as I was trying to post a thanks to Ken Edwards for taking the time to do that for us. Thanks Ken. I forgot how great it was!

That would be up to the title holders like Vic, Jeff and Bob. As Joe said, "There is only one Bob Berry and we are not him."

Sounds like we better do it quick, before they all kick the bucket. Please forgive me if any of these gentlemen, er, ASOBs have already passed on. Seems like there are enough of them around, including Joe and Frank and Vic and Don, to make another go at it.

How about it, are you guys in?

Ken, I had never seen that clip. I've heard the rap dozens of times but your edit into a video clip is priceless. When you realize that Mark made that in the "pre-rap " era it's pretty amazing. He missed his calling as the first white rapper. "LaFraz"
I pulled my video of the ringneck ASOB and put on my desk. I will get it dropped off somewhere to make a digital copy so I can share it.
Allie, Gary Z has passed and no one has seen Greg Septon for ages but several of the other players including Joe, Jeff , Vic etc are still around. Bob Berry will be at the next world show. Knowing Bob, he would be willing to MC a challenge if there was any interest. It's not a contest for easily bruised egos but is an absolute hoot to watch. It's hard to know if it would translate into the taxidermy atmosphere of today.

Don, I think the WTC could use some spice. The awards banquet strokes so many egos that a light-hearted event like this would provide a nice counter-balance.

I agree, besides the fact that it's fun for the people involved and the spectators as well. Not so much fun for anyone who sees their efforts end up on the floor but..... If you know what you are signing up for before you enter then it's on you.
I'm going to give Uncle "Bob" a call today and see if he's game. I think I already know the answer but will check jus in case.

Ok, Allie. First of all thanks for your replies on this thread and I agree with all of them. It would be a blast to be in another ASOB before I "kick the bucket". Well I guess I'll have to be the one to ask the question the people following this thread want to know........If we do hold another are you planning to enter?

    Vic....ASOB
By the way, If you did win what title would you put after your name?
    Just curious.
