Ethical birds or small mammals

you mean you prefer road kill, distemper, parvo, mange animals. maybe ones starved in a hard winter or killed by internal strife in populations that are not managed by hunting or trapping? I suppose I could spread some distemper or parvo virus, run some roads at night and try to hit some. I cked the old folks( nursing home for animals) home and none were there. imagine that. how about the zilluion dogs and cats the humane society gives the blue needle every year because of over population? I think you get my drift. if you want some trapped or shot according to all legal laws and methods, I can help you out.

You can probably get some naturally deceased cage birds from pet shops or private owners, and the same would go for pet rodents, reptiles, etc. Farm animals also die from natural causes, especially newborns.
Any of those will make good practice animals and some could make awesome mounts, but they have almost zero resale value so you would mostly be doing the work for your own enjoyment.

 

Bob's reply wasn't just an opinion, it was simply a statement of the facts of life in the animal world. Then he offered to help you get a good specimen. He could do that.

I think the point is that humanely harvested specimens from a population of animals that are managed for maximum sustainability on the landscape are the most ethical specimens you could ever hope to receive.
I think your judgement of "ethical"is a bit off base.
There is nothing ethical about leaving animals to overpopulate to the point of succumbing to disease,starvation,or flattened on the highway looking for an open area to live.

Just reaching out here as I think your heart is in the right place but you may have some misguided opinions here about what is ‘ethical’. (I know you may not ‘want my opinion’ or others’ on here, but you are posting in a community. This is not shopping at a mega-store; these are humans who know and care about eachother.)
Bob made a good point; all kinds of animals die and are killed for many reasons. Did you know the greens you eat are protected by trappers like Bob? Starlings are shot out of the sky to protect berries that vegans consider ‘cruelty free’.
Also, many of these members are hunters— the truest form of free-range.
This online community is wonderful but they are not going to be willing to help you out and sell you items with a defensive tone like that. Please open your mind and join us in supporting and being civil to eachother. These are good folks and I’m sure you’re a good person too

 

I have some rabid animals, thats a natural death. Several mange coyotes.

Oops you came to a forum where people support hunting and fishing and call diseased death ethical. Guess what ethical is hunting legally!!!!

 

You might get out early and drive the roads looking for roadkill. Most of it is mountable if it's been knocked to the side of the road. Leave the hawks and owls where they lay.

 

fwiw, I am a graduate dvm with a minor in wildlife management. I`d be glad to tell you on how animals die "natural". it isn`t pretty. you can do whatever you want with "natural" dead animals, but to insinuate there is anything wrong with using animals harvested legally in season with proper licensing is incorrect. seasons and method of harvest are controlled strictly by wildlife biologists with the first criteria being what is best for the protection of the species. wise use is the definition of conservation. for lots of us here it`s a hot button when we see a request like yours as it`s a given where your mind is on legal HARVESTING OF ANIMALS. if you are in need of select perfect specimens harvested legally and with care, I and many others here can supply you. maybe we jump too quick when we see a request like yours, but also maybe you should seethe other veiw point.

 

Its called educating the public,monty,many of whom have been fed incorrect propaganda by the Animal Rights groups that is ultimately harmful to the overall wellbeing of animal populations.A lot of people don't get the chance to hear the real story from the true frontline animal conservationists who are the men and women that are employed in the management of wildlife for the benefit of all to enjoy by keeping the animals on the landscape at healthy maximum carrying capacity.
I find that the vast majority of the public understand the nescessity and benefits of modern humane wildlife conservation and management once they have been provided with the true facts.

 

How do you think we (taxidermists, hunters, trappers) would be treated if we went to a liberal web site and asked if someone could provide a bird or other animal that was trapped?? We would get called every vile, insulting, aggressive, .... in the book. We would likely get death threats. I think everyone responding to this post has been very nice compared to what we would get if we asked for something that fits our lifestyle. Good luck digitalgoodtime!!!
