McKenzie question?

I suspect the overburden of boxes and bubblewrap is incorporated somewhere in their pricing and shipping. If you buy one simple item, it's going to be packaged and boxed according to size. I occasionally get in a pinch and have to buy a single item. My standard operating procedure is to write down something on a notepad when I need it, and place an order once a month.

 

They pad their freight charges I’ve seen in when the actual freight bill was accidentally put in the box of a truck order. It’s just business you can’t expect them to give all that stuff away. When I ship a mount the customer pays for everything including the box and labor to box or crate it up.

 

When setting your prices you have to figure that in and charge accordingly. The only time I directly pay for shipping is if the supplies are for me.

 

I recently ordered two scalpels, some artificial habitat and several pairs of eyes and requested them to be sent USPS. They came in a box about a third of the size of a shoe box stuffed with a bit of brown paper. By going USPS, it took twice as long to receive it over UPS or FED EX.

Shipping was $7 and change.

 

Its not just MK its everyone of them including myself. Its to be expected its a business to make a profit. Its not a hobby to pass some time.
All moneys of MINE spent, will have some profit add into it, including shipping. If the customer wants to arrange their own shipping, and I give them that option. That's perfectly fine by me. In all these years ,I’ve had only one guy in Florida do that.
I sent two skins salted and dried to Tx to be tanned, shipping was 16.00 bucks UPS. Same two skins back to me UPS , tanned was 26.00 bucks. We all know those two tanned skins was a lot lighter in weight , and went into a smaller box. So dont tell me they didn't add a small profit on shipping charges.

 

I have found that when I think of an item I need I go to their website and add it to my wish list. When the list gets big enough or items are needed I place order. Great way to keep track of things needed.

I like those volume discounts! 30 days isn't going to make much difference to my customers...they ain't coming to get their stuff when its finished anyways!

 

Learn how to operator your taxidermy business as a business !!! and be successful or you will just complain about others that have learned to be successful, I have found most taxidermist are the worst business people & very terrible customer service business operators along with lack of there efficiency and organization , most are unclean business operations which give taxidermy a negative atmosphere, I Get paid very very very well for producing a outstanding taxidermy product along with outstanding customer service and operate a extremely clean and professional taxidermy business second to none or you can be just be a part time hobby taxidermist and lack all the above qualities which most do
Some part time taxidermist are Extremely good and very talented & handle the trade with the utmost professionalism and do extremely well in the trade both professionally and in business and I commend them for it Keep it up !!!
So for most quite complaining about the $ you are not making take a lesson from the old master in the industry not the kit taxidermist of today learn how to operate a Business !!!

Like I said earlier in this thread, I requested it be sent USPS and it came with no bubble wrap. Just brown paper.

 

To answer your fuggan question, of course they charge you for it. I get your point. It seems a big waste. I'm guessing that over time they have sent many of things in an envelope and had to replace them because people called bitchen because the carrier, that they often times chose, played football or hockey with the envelope while on their break. They have learned that it is best to get the supplies there as protected as they can and as quick as they can. Broken supplies cost both them and the taxidermist money. Unfortunately, there really isn't a way for us all to win in this situation.
