Oklahoma has a good population in the south east part of the state. Only four counties are open and you can't bait on public land. We have only had a season for about 9 or 10 years. It was a 20 bear archery quota until about 3 years ago and then the quota was removed.

My uncle and his buddy came out for a mule deer hunt. They didn't shoot huge deer, but we had a great time. They are both over 70 and we walked close to 30 miles in three days, up and down the hills and valleys. We saw some nice bucks, just didn't work out for bringing home the monster.

Congrats Mad Dawg! There is a special kind of satisfaction one gets when the game harvested is by traditional archery equipment.

my best friend and i went on a 3 day bobcat hunt around warren county with a guide. he runs them with dogs. we went to camp Wednesday night in the hopes of having snow after the rain stopped. Thursday it was still raining so we sat around camp. it snowed Thursday evening and into Friday. Friday we chased two separate cats that he said should weigh more than 30 pounds. the first track was as big as the bottom of a Styrofoam coffee cup. unfortunately they beat us to the rocks and safety both times [IMG]

Saturday we found a nice big track, slightly snowed over. he said it would be worth trying as it looks like a tom in the 20 pound range and if its the same one they ran before, he knows where it likes to lose the dogs as they ran it twice before.

the guide and i drove over to the ridge where he said the cat would go, his son stayed with the dogs and followed the tracks. we just made it from the truck to the rock and boulder lined ridge that was about a mile away from where we parked about 5 minutes before the dogs got there. the cat beat us there but was just hiding and circling among the big rocks and boulders. we finally got it spotted about 45 yards away on top of a boulder that was as big as a house about 30 feet tall and 60 feet long. we were higher up looking down on all the big boulders in this area.

the cat climbed over the edge and was looking down at the dogs, it never saw us. i hit it with a load of federal # 4 buckshot using a carlson coyote choke. it looked like it just deflated, DRT and fell off the edge to the ground.
