Bondo Stuck To Form Instead Of Skull Cap

I put paste wax like Johnson's or Turtle Wax on the form so the Bondo can't stick to it.

 

That occasionally happen to me. Simply set the skull cap back into the existing bondo when you get the cape on the form. The antlers will only fit one way.

I also use a thin layer of johnson’s wax to keep bondo from sticking to the form.

I want those handles secure so I actually set them after cape is on. I cut skull plate and prefit prior to pulling on cape then apply bondo and screw the skull cap on, clean up any that oozes out and blend. Yes Bondo isn't an adhesive but it has adhesive qualities, as long as they stay put until cape and glue dry those handles aren't going anywhere.

 

Similar to 3bears, I want to screw the cap to the form to insure max stability. Another option instead of vasoline or paste wax is to place some thin Saran Wrap over the form before the bondo and cap are positioned/set. Taping it to the form on the sides keeps it in place. This keeps the surface clean allowing a glue to bond better to the form. I secure the “cured” bondo-filled cap to the form by drilling and setting a few drywall screws down into the wood portion of the form. When ready for final setting, I use some gorilla glue between the form and bondo and screw it on tight before sculpting back muscle/tissues with some quick drying mache or water putty. When mounting larger game with heavy horns max strength here is paramount.

 

I figured that screwing it down was a given.

 

It's fine, but in the future, you can put painter's tape on the mannikin. Bondo won't stick to it.
