Argentinian Black Buck - used a Research G-1231-P and altered it to a wall pedestal, tightened the turn and change the head angle a bit.

 

Crab: Like your finish/paint job on Warthog. Reminded me of how much work those usually are. Funny how the upper warts especially have a tendency to shrink down and become hard and pointed after drying and tanning. When alive those things are big, bulbous and fleshy. (see pic of one my buddy took). Some I have gotten were split in into halves or quarters at the tips to enable scraping out the grizzly tough subcutaneous tissues at time of skinning. Others I had were not cleaned at all and became so dense (rock hard) when tanned that the only way was to remove and replace them with the artificial Bondo warts you can get from McKenzie's. (Pic of one mounted with artificial warts). I found using a dremel/sanding wheel one can thin down the remaining subcutaneous tissues essentially thinning down the wart from the inside to allow just enough stretch to enlarge them using some kind of tool (like a rounded dowel). Then I pack them with clay or magic sculpt. Even then sometimes you just can't get them back to their proper plumpness.

 

Rich, you are so correct on the warts. They can be a pain for sure. I cut them on the underside, invert and dremal them as thin as I can like you said. I will re oil, stake on a rounded dowl, then insert a carved foam plug coated with gorilla glue.

I give my wart hog mounts a week or so to dry, leaving the warts as is. I cut them off as close to the face as possible and run a screw in the wart and form, at the correct angle. I sculpt the replacements with epoxy putty. I give it time to stiffen and start sculpting the details. I texture them with sand grout with adhesive in it.

great wart hog! I actually use a small paddle bit which is the size of the wart and am able to get down to the tip pretty easy. then use a dremel to thin them out.
