A guy called me up and wants a Habitat display for his office. He wants a mother coyote with a gopher in her mouth outside a den setting with 3-4 weened pups in the den. I have never even seen what would be considered what a good reference for yote pups would look like. I know how the dens look. Then how do you find pups and then price all that. I am not ready to take that on yet I know that but just would like to know how everyone works all that out ansd then comes up with a price ??? Thanks for the knowledge this place is a beginners dream.

That was my thought too I like sure I'll just run out and get some. Not never have seen one other then in a zoo that was under four months old.

I would charge enough for those pups--not an easy mount--you will have to carve cast or hand wrap the bodys for those little ones but it would be a cool mount!

  5. price each animal as a seperate mount, then figure habitat etc.. he is asking for a mount with at least 5 different mounts in it.... not to mention the super custom (and large) habitat... price each accordingly (do not forget to let him know how long it might take and the added cost of the specimens... is he providing ANY of them??? this will be expensive even if he were to provide all the hides for them...

let me know how the search for the hides goes... right now I have two juvie groundhogs in the freezer.. and one adult.. was going to do a family scene... will let one go ifya need... work on the yote pups first... let me know...

I am PCSing here within the next month or three... going to Tampa area... let me know...

If he isnt going to provide the pups, get ahold of a predator hunter in your area.. Alot of them cover ranches and when a rancher wants the pups taken out to they will do it.. ask them to save them for you :)

A lot of coyotes are preggers this time of year too...might could get a pregnant one and then do up the pups.

If they are supposed to be weaned a pregnant female wouldnt do any good. Pups would be fetuses not pups waiting for mom to bring them dinner.
Best bet is to wait til the pups are out and about.. Thats what Im waiting for LOL.. I have been wanting to do a "famly" scene for awhile.. I have a bunch of friends watching for pups for me this year..

IF I end up with extras I could send you some Sarge.. Free of charge of course..You just pay the shipping. But fair warning... last year I didnt get any :( Im hoping to really get a bunch of people out looking soon as the pups are old enough.

Ah...I get it...even though Sarge didn't say weaned in his post, the fact that the Mom is bringing prey back to them implies it? There we go...ding ding ding, I get it. Here's hoping you good luck for some pups Royal. ;) It'd be a neat scene.

Thanks to EVERYONE! I DO NOT NEED THE PUPS I DID NOT TAKE THE JOB. I know I do not have enogh experience yet to take on 5-6 seperate mounts that are all tied together I appreciate all the offers of help and everything. I just wanted to know how you go about figuring something that big. I started laying it out on paper as Jerry said and looing at what I would need and what I would need to do . I new right there I wasn't going to take on the Job. I am only at the crawl stage of taxidermy walking and running are a ways out there for me. I do know that by not taking the job I won't have some God awful mistake that is huge from the begining of my career to follow me forever. Just think your first real major project being a Museum sized piece. Would you want that to hang over your head. I want to be as Good as OlTerry at Yotes before I take on the PUps and habitat and all that as well.

For those who are interested, Bob Wendt can provide yote pups if contacted. He does predator control and has to clean out dens.

That is exectly what I aws going to reccomend. I bought Coyote pup from Bob last year.

That job would have ran conservatively $5,000 for the whole set & scene

Thanks again to everyone I really appreciate all the help now I have a general idea how to handle it I hate getting asked questions like that and kinda standing there like the deer in the proverbial headlight look. It shows a lack of confidence and ability and I don't like being caught off guard like that.

  16. Rooster - if you need a juvie groundhog let me know and I will dig through the freezer...
