Congrats on you first!
I've seen a lot worse turkeys by a lot more seasoned taxidermists.

The tail looks great.

It does look a little rough. I blow dry the heck out of my turkeys to get all the down as fluffy as it will get. The next one you do will be better as you were able to see things to work out on your own without anyone pointing them out to you.

One thing I would do on your next turkey and what you could have done on this one before you painted the head is to inject some alcohol into the turkey's right eye ring (a little goes a long way) and reshape the eye ring so it matches the turkey's left eye and pin it in place until it dries. Do this before you paint it.
The head paint looks real nice.

Over all it's a good looking effort and you are well on your way.

I got that from the Harry Whitehead turkey mounting video from Taxidermy Training Unlimited.

 

I don't remember what kind he used. I just use rubbing alcohol from the super market. I have also used it to alter the pose of the snood also. You have to be careful doing that as it can cause the snood to go "flat". A little goes a long way.

 

Looks good. I've seen paying customers that get MUCH worse. I have 3-4 in my freezer I'm going to attempt and I'm about as novice as it gets.

 

I am currently planning on giving this a try for the first time this spring if I get lucky!! Curious to what experience you have in painting and what kind of paint did you use? That head looks great!!
