Removing Skull From Shoulder Mount Deer ?

Hi, so these really aren't going to be worth much at all sorry. But my brothers use to take alot of antlers off of old mounts it isn't very easy but not to hard either, just take a sharp knife cut the skin back where it looks like it was sewn and once you get that lifted a little you can take a tough flat head screwdriver and start to pry it up,(the skull will must likely bondoed and screwed in) once you get it to where you can see the skull on both sides you can take the flat head screwdriver and a hammer and start hitting where the skull and foam meet. And once it is cleared a bit you should be able to see screws ( if there is any). also if you would want I could mount the deer again for you! lol

 

Do as stated above but do this first, get a clean trash can that the rack will fit in , put mounted head , rack down in trash can . Then fill with water just high enough to go past back of ear butts , leave in water for a day or two and then follow above directions. But I doubt you will have to bang on it as it will practically fall apart after you cut the stitches out

 

yeah I was going to say that too but forgot. I don't know if the water will make it fall apart but it was always hard when we did it, even on really old mounts.

 

Then your just not soaking it long enough . It will get very soft and ply able , just cut the stitches loosen the screws, if soaked long enough the clay or machae on top of skull will be soft and gooie , very easy to find the screws .

 

Well we never actually soaked them, we just worked with them dry. I just being on here the last while thought that I should suggest that cause I thought it would probably work but forgot to mention it. Thanks for the tips tho.
