Help Please- Alum Salt...chrome?

    hey fellas im just starting to tan some hides an mount some onto forms i bought, im in middle of tanning and pickling per say, in alum powder an salt mix, it says to then bath in chrome for a week, rinse an done, per say........

    the chrome is green........... will it stain my deers? particularly a pure white fallow???

    is there such a thing as the hides being preserved just by Alum and Salt bath for a week or so? then wrapped onto a form???? or am i missing the "Tan" here?

    newbie as but budget an cant afford taxidermist, but have capes for most big deer i have to mount.... fairly confident. just unsure on the 'tan'... curious as to the salt alum etc...

    also another Q- alum salt....and bi carb bath??? yeah or no,

    Ok I’m not going to write much here but forget chrome tanning for taxidermy as you’ll get no stretch. Chrome tanning is used for shoes, laces gloves etc. it’s a high metal factor and then gets dumped at a proper facility.

    Frank is right. I do want to address your question about staining from the chrome tan. I did a bobcat with it once (the only time I used chrome tan) and the hide was a blue green color, but the fur stayed it's appropriate color.

    G'day Dingo.
    Im a first timer here, but have been dabbling with chrome tanning for a couple of years so far.
    As a general rule chrome tanning wont stain the fur...
    The only issue ive had is i once did 4 domestic rabbits that were white, & i removed them from the chrome at different intervals as i had time to break them.
    The first one i removed after just 2 weeks was fine, but the last 2 i did have a slight blue tinge. Im pretty sure i washed them well--they were washed & rinsed until i had no blue coming in the rinse water.
    This is the only time ive had an issue...Ive not had it with goat, deer, fox or wild bunny.
