What Is The Prediction Of This Years Taxidermy Work 2020

Booked solid and work still coming. I don't spend as much time on here as I used to as I have to sift through all the political crap to try and find a post about taxidermy.

 

yea, I did about 40 African last year, won't be seeing any of that this year. my personal maral and mid Asian ibex are stuck in kazakhstan. but domestically I don't think anything will change.

 

The shop I am at is going to get hit BIG TIME. We do a huge amount of African, Asian, Canadian, Alaskan mammals. It will take about a year, because we are still working on the stuff from last year, but next year, we are going to hurting.

I also think hunters are going to be hesitant about having locally shoot animals done because of the future economic uncertainties.

I hope I'm wrong.

 

EVERYTHING will be back to "normal" come November .... fact.

Normally I don't receive many from out of country but I've got some coming from New Zealand at some point. Hunters around here have been very active harvesting local exotics from rams to red stag axis black bucks. It's been one of my busiest summers out of my 16 years.

Am I? Gonna have to watch the movie! Little surprised to see this pop up on this thread. As far as work coming in for taxidermists, Those that do higher end local work will do okay. I remember working through the economic crash 40 years ago and people out of work went hunting. But those doing mid to lower priced work will see fierce competition for the much fewer people in that demographic being able to afford getting work done. Businesses that rely totally on the travelling hunter are scrambling to compensate as the world literally lost an entire season of African hunting. As well as a whole Canadian spring bear season and now a whole North American fall season. I am still finishing big lifesize jobs and folks are really slow to pay these days and it has started to cause problems. Not to mention the huge tax increases driving the price of everything through the roof here in Canada. Suicides here are off the charts and that info is being suppressed. The economic shutdown will kill far more people than the plandemic.

“California’s latest legislation, SB 1175, would ban both the importation and possession of eight commonly hunted African species, including taxidermy received after 2020. These species include: elephant, lion, leopard, rhino, giraffe, hippo, hyena, and zebra. This is an overreach by California, and in no way would this bill benefit these wildlife species.“
So even owning one of these will make innocent citizens criminals. I have three zebra hides and a cape in my shop. All of these were once alive here in California. So the owners one in particular raise Zebras will be criminals?
Just nuts.

Yo Dave,
The best protection you can provide yourself is to write an affidavit fully describing those 3 hides you have, how and where you acquired them and anything and everything that establishes the fact that those hides came from CA animals and are not imported African skins. Then file that record in your county recorder's office, making it a matter of public record. Then if overzealous game cops come for your property you'll be able to show and prove that your hides are lawfully owned. It sounds to me like you fear if the legislation passes that your hides (no pun intended) would be in jeopardy of confiscation. I'm guessing that you would be safe under "no ex-post facto" provisions. If you do as I suggest here, you'll never regret it. If you don't you may regret it.
