Recommended Silicone For Molding A Partial Skull And Horns (steenbok)

    I am new to molding and have done a couple of small things (fins, fish head) using Dragon Skin NV. Am looking to do a couple of small partial skull/horn molds (Duiker , Steenbok, Reedbuck). Any recommendations for other silicones to use? I see that the MoldMax is almost half the price would that be a viable option? Or other Silicones? Thanks!

    Ok you have two choices, tin or platinum.
    Tin last about 6 moths to a yr before it starts to break down and tear and fall apart. Also good for multiple casts but will slowly loose detail due to heat, undercuts, etc.
    Platinum will last way longer, lots of multiple casts , less chances of lossing detail. Much better product for longevity.
    With that said I use tin a lot mold max for a lot of reproduction. Cast what I need now, save the first cast ( can cast that later when silicone breaks down) I use this on fish a lot ( tin will set on moisture as platinum will not unless sealed properly)
    It’s your choice as they both have good reasons to use.
    I use my platinum a lot on my original cast of animal noses. I make my first mold from tin, pour it, fix what’s needed, then remake the mold from platinum for later use.
