Would You Still Ship Usps At This Time??

I'm shipping out my first mount in quite a while tomorrow. I've always used USPS Priority with insurance. I was warned to consider another carrier at the present time with all the turmoil with the USPS. Package might get severely delayed.
I was thinking Fed Ex since I won't have too far to drop it off. I live in a very rural area. Anything good or bad about them? Any other suggestions?

I've never had a problem with USPS. With a tracking number, you should be safe. I'm in a similar situation. PO is 1 mile away, FEDEX is 12 miles away.

Fedex is a good choice. I have always had a good experience with them!

May go with Fed Ex. They're 10 bucks cheaper than USPS now and offer twice the free insurance!

I bought a mink from Idaho USPS priority took 9 days to get to illinois, they tracked it to Georgia the first 5 days then it disappeared, needless to say it wasn't in great shape when I got it,I think the mailman lost his breakfast.

Nope I wouldn’t, they have lost 2 packages for over 3 weeks , even with tracking and if you buy insurance, they never ever pay out on the claim . They promise a delivery date and when it’s not there they say tuff chit that was an about delivery date , but that’s not what the person behind the window told ya . I’ll only ship UPS , I’ve never had an issue with them.

I used to have really good luck with the Post Office Priority Mail getting frozen fish to their destination in 3 days or less some exceptions. (Indiana to Texas was an exception). And the price was better than UPS or Fedex. Unfortunately it hit or miss now. Be aware last I knew with the Covid-19 situation, both UPS and Fedex cannot guarantee regular ground in under 5 days.

As far as fragile mounts I stopped shipping the UPS years ago regardless of how well they were crated. With one it almost seemed like they had to have made an effort to destroy it. Never had that issue with the post office except when I shipped to Canada. In that case I believe someone removed the replica from the box and put it back incorrectly which caused it to be damaged.

Do not, i repeat!! DO NOT USE THEM RIGHT NOW. I have to different items sent to me from florida with tracking that are lost and have been since July 20th. Both are certified checks to add to the misery.

If you are talking about sending something perishable, I would recommend FEDEX. They are the king of next day delivery. I send turkey heads to Georgia to be freeze dried. Standard rate, and they always get delivered next day. FEDEX offices have a map that shows their standard rate next day area. It's around 300 miles, which is pretty awesome.

I used to ship all fish out with UPS. I was totally happy with their delivery on time and safe, but gradually their prices went through the roof. I switched to USPS Priority Mail. I have saved a lot of money with them and have been well satisfied with their timely and safe delivery. FWIW I ship a lot of mounted fish.

Thanks Perca, I like the convenience of USPS Priority and have used them many times over the years. I see that my mount arrived today!

I wouldn't ship manure by Fedex. My son tried to send me cooked & frozen crabs from WA and sent them OVERNIGHT SHIPPING. Never got them less than 6 days and inedible. Same thing with USPS. Overnight means four or five days if you're lucky. I'll stick with UPS as they give me the best service.

Thanks for that info JL. I almost sent a couple mounts Fed Ex last week because they were cheaper than USPS Priority. I stuck with USPS though and both mounts got there early.

I had trout eggs shipped from Utah to Indiana via Fedex overnight A.M. Both times did not arrive A.M. I asked and got a refund the second time (over $180.00). Did you get your son to ask for a refund on shipping?

How are you doing JL? How is retirement?

I'm not fully retired just don't work on anything that requires tanning and still manufacture the insect repellent. Just do fish and birds now as that's easy money. Still a heathy 84 year old if there is such a thing but the sand is dropping fast in the glass bottle. Happy to hear from you, don't fall out of the boat again. Good luck, JL

Just got a notice UPS is raising it's rates due to COVID. Have to wonder if it's another excuse to raise their rates as they have so many extras charges i.e. rural surcharge, residential business surcharge, fuel surcharge, pick up fee, online access fee etc. etc. Fortunately I don't do any business with them anymore after they charged me over $500.00 for shipping they promised to pay for due to a screw up on their part. After a year they still can't fix it.

Ups charged me after audit 295 to ship a 38 in steelhead with no habit from northern MI 3.5 hours south to southern MI. Box was 42x18x18. Original shipping quote was 45 dollars. Still hasn’t been resolved and that was February. In the audit they also claimed the box weighed over 100 pounds. Only weighed 8.

Wow that sucks! When I used an account with them they keep dinging me for oversize boxes when they were standard Uline boxes! Crooks!

They want hundreds of dollars from me which I don't owe. Even one of their local employees that can prove it's a bogus charge can't straighten it out. They charged me on an account I haven't used for years. I will never ship with them again.
