Tiny Snake

    I was working on my basement and I found a tiny snake that appears to have been dead for a little while. I would like to preserve my unnamed, unknown reptile roommate. It looks like it's eyes are already desiccated and the skull is a little soft. I'm not sure how long it has sat, but it appears to still be in good condition.

    I've looked into different types of preservation techniques including formalin, ethyl alcohol, freeze dry taxidermy, and DIY freeze dry taxidermy.

    I'm very new to this, only about 6 hours but I would greatly appreciate any assistance anyone can give me!

    I'm no expert but looks like a young garter snake to me. When I make wet specimens, I inject them in 2-3 areas with formalin and soak them in formalin for several hours (depends on size) before jarring them in isopropyl alcohol. That said, I don't do wet specimens much, so others on here probably have better advice

    Garter snake for sure. Get them around the house every now and then.
