Tiger Skull

Would say that it was definitely a tiger. As for a permit, I would be very surprised if you get one. Not in the USA. You may be able to get permission to sell it in the state you live in but that would be all. You can not sell to someone that is not a resident of your state (meaning a license or other photo ID is required of the buyer to prove they are a resident), can not ship out of your state for any reason.

Now .. I notice in your profile, you say you are in England. If so, lucky you. You will indeed be able to sell it and even ship it to a few other countries ... Canada even but absolutely not the USA. You would have to do the conversion but you could easily ask $2000 USD for it, depending on the damage, and probably get that amount. I would love to see more photos of it from the other sides. Looks to be an old zoo cat that was shot to put it down. You might want to consider hanging on to Grandpas skull and hand it down to your own kids.

I’m 98% sure that’s a African lion skull. A tiger skull has a more defined brow line where as a lion is almost flat across.

 

May we see some additional photos? A lateral (side) view at skull level would be beneficial in identification. The bullet entry at the nasal frontal suture must have blown out the palate and much of the ventral details; may I see a photo of the ventral (bottom) of the skull as well. thanks

 

Nope. Sutures ID it as a tiger.

 

That really is a nice, old cat with considerable arthritis. Lucky acquisition. As for the paw, not really sure. The claws alone might be worth some but they are also really worn down and damaged.

LOL. Go legal. I "might" be putting up for sale a hybrid Ti-Ti-Liger skull. Liger crossed back with a tiger twice. Absolutely legal to own as it is a hybrid. Have the documents to go with it. Very close to a tiger but bigger and in pristine condition. Will be over $2000 for it though. Not either a tiger or a lion, not even a liger, but something much, much more rare than any of them.

 

I wouldn’t even know how to categorize that on my otherwise very well-organized list.... but I’ll figure it out! Let me know if/when.

 

I agree. Looks like a classic tiger. And it is almost certainly a zoo specimen: tooth cracks, wear and calculus are all very zooey. Cool specimen. Good luck getting documentation. I really would recommend keeping it if you can.
